    Dual monitor problem

    Hi all,

I have a dual monitor setup. One adapter is a NVIDIA Quadro FX 1300 the other is a RADEON 7000. My setup works fine, my dual monitor and extended desktop are great.

Here's my problem... any typical divx file plays great in WMP on my left monitor (NVIDIA) by when I try to play it on my right monitor (RADEON) it tells me
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not suppor the file type or might not suppor the codec that was used to compress the file.
I know I have the codecs installed because the file works in the other monitor. Furthermore, I can start playing a divx file, see it working great in the left monitor, drag it to the right monitor and have WMP stop dead with the same message.

Any help would be really great.

    Thanks.

Just so we're clear, you have two (very) different graphics cards in one PC?

Exactly. Two cards in on PC. I understand it sounds crazy. I really only need the second card for the TV out since my NVIDIA handles dual display fine. I run my second display off the RADEON so that I can clone my TV to it in theatre mode.

      Thanks

Never even heard of anybody doing it like that...

You could try using Media Player Classic and change the renderer to VMR7 Renderless via settings--->output.

Wow... that worked like a charm.

          Thanks a mint!

Actually, now that I play with it a little, MPC seems to work with any renderer. Is there one I should use over the others?

          Thanks again!

If it works on System Default, select it.

Well the video is playing great, but I can't get the theatre mode to kick in on my TV.

Is there a trick with MPC with respect to Theatre mode viewing?

Don't really know what that means... fullscreen perhaps?

                  Yes, fullscreen on my TV.
Maybe it would be of use to describe what I'm after.
                  • I have two monitors and a TV connected to my PC.
                  • I would like to have the TV as a clone of one of my monitors, AND play videos fullscreen (typically referred to as theatre mode: regular desktop on the monitor and fullscreen on the clone.)
                  • I have the two video cards installed (NVIDIA and RADEON mentioned above) and both are working fine.
My first attempt looked like this:
                  Primary Display: NVIDIA
                  Secondary: RADEON
                  TV: Clone of secondary.

My initial problem is that the radeon would not play video that the nvidia would (!?!?) Thanks to your advice about MPC that has been fixed, but I cannot get the TV to play the video in fullscreen theatre mode.

My second attempt looks like this:
                  Primary Display: NVIDIA
Secondary Display: NVIDIA (second monitor port)
TV: RADEON (the only monitor running off of the radeon so it can't be a clone)

With this setup I can set my Radeon resolution to TV resolution and play videos the traditional ALT-ENTER fullscreen way. The downside of this is that I can't see any controls or the MPC window because its dragged onto the TV portion of the desktop.

If there was a way to control MPC from one monitor while having the video play in another I would be set.

I really appreciate all your advice.

                  Thanks again!
