    The Same Burning Problem Returned

I've mentioned this before. I can't send a log file because there's nothing to send. That is because I started IMGBurn earlier and shut it off and the log only tells the opening bit without any DVD burning details. I've sent a log in before but nothing seemed to work but I have a suggestion that might help me that doesn't really require a log file.

When I was burning DVD years ago, it used to take 27 to 28 minutes at the most. When I burn a DVD now I can fill a whole DVD disc in about 9 minutes. Am I burning them too quickly and is that why they fail to play a lot. I'm wondering if the speed of the burning is hard for some of my DVD machines to keep up with the pace of the DVDs. Remember, this only happens sometimes. I thought I got the best media that's Sony DVD+R that go up to the speed of 16x and now I get a lot of break-ups and pausing during playbacks.

    Many thanks.

    Darren.

Have you tried different burning speeds like 4X, 8X & 12X then scan with CdDvd Speed to see what is right for these blanks. Are these Sony's, MIT or MIJ? What is the MID? Remember it is Drive + good media + correct burning speed = good output.

Are you following the Golden Rules Of Burning

TY & Verbatim media is considered the "best" by many users here

16x rate speed does not mean that you should burn at 16x, I burn every thing at 8x, 12x is for testing or fun only

            Many thanks for the help.

I've changed the speed but I haven't tried anything yet. The discs go up to 16x, not 12x.

I'm using IMGBurn. Do you? If you do, when you mentioned testing the discs, do you mean testing them when they are blank or do you mean use Verify after burning? I've used Verify and that is pointless because it can give the all clear and a DVD can still go wrong during playback.

I'm not aware of what the MIT, MIJ and MID are.

As a correction, I'm using DVD-R. I must have bought the wrong ones because I mostly buy DVD+R. As a rule I get better results from DVD+RW and DVD+R discs. I'm going to buy some DVD+R this week and see what happens. I've only just noticed I have the DVD-R discs.

            Darren.

I'm going to change the speed to 4x and see what happens. When I had this problem the last time, the speed of the Media only went as high as 8X and when I got the Sony discs to the speed of 16X, I assumed 16X was the solution. This is what I thought that was causing the problem, the matter of me burning too quickly. That was when I mentioned I burnt DVDs to 7 minutes at the most when I used to take 27 minutes to the most.

              Many thanks again.

              Darren.

I use TYs but any blank DVDs made Japan will do. Ever noticed that most the DVD media at your local store are mostly from Taiwan? If you are lucky, you might find some spindles from Japan among them. I have seen and bought Sony's MIJ.

BTW, I strictly burn at 4x but I can go lower and not higher.

The testing I meant is with Nero CDDVD Speed available here for free. This would be about half an hour after burning.

I changed my speed but I thought I'd change to 8X as the image shows here.

I sent the image to show where I changed the speed. I don't know if I have to verify it elsewhere with IMGBurn. This made matters worse because the disc won't play at all. Sometimes when DVDs refuse to play for me, they eject themselves but this time I got a message saying, "Disc cannot be played." I thought if I go to number 4X it still won't work. Things are risky now because I've already lost about eight discs from a new spindle and I have no RWs spare.

                        Many thanks.

                        Darren.

I did try a burn at 8X and the DVD won't play at all now. My Firmware is up-to-date as well. I'm creating ISO Image Files and I'm doing the same as I normally do so this is a hard one. Don't get me wrong, I'm trying this and that and checking The Golden Rules many times as a re-read. I'm running out of ideas. It's odd why things work well for a while and they go wrong out of the blue and work again etc. As I said, I'm doing the same thing that I normally do and I don't fiddle with the settings in any software unless I know what I'm doing.

                            Many thanks.
