Have you checked to see if your standalone supports Dvd-R's? You don't have a log from these other burns?

I hope it's OK for me to put this topic on hold for a bit because I'm going to check some things out. First, I'm going to try Plus discs and I was going to get some but they seem to be out of stock everywhere as if there's a mad panic of people suddenly wanting DVD+R and DVD+RW discs in my area. I should get some on Monday.
As I've mentioned, my Firmware is up-to-date and if the discs are not at fault, I'm wondering if it's my stupid Freecom DVD burner causing this. I remember a time late last year when I had the same problem in exactly the same way with DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, when I bought a new burner (because Freecom's Firmware was no good), things were back on track and things were working fine. If I find out it is my DVD Burner, Freecom have a lot of explaining to do because I've only had my DVD burner since November. It's not even half a year old. I've known people to have internal DVD burners in their PCs that are not made by Freecom and their DVD burners stil work like a dream. I've had to buy four DVD burners now because of strange problems like this and because Freecom's Firmware never works.
Let me put it another way. I've had three problems with their Firmware and I did choose the correct one. I said "one" because all my Freecom DVD burners all have the same model number. The first time I tried to get some Firmware, it wouldn't download and my PC wasn't to blame because it downloaded every thing else OK. The second time, the Zip File was corrupted and my Win Zip wasn't corrupted because it unzipped other Zip Files OK and I also took the time to re-install Win Zip encase and it wasn't a trial that expired. The third time, I managed to download and unzip it but it failed to work. I got my PC ready to do the flash thing and I believe a flashing method is the name for it somewhere and the Firmware seemed to have dead icons. Not only does Freecom make burners that have as much life as a goldfish, they don't seem to mess up my type of Firmware and maybe others.
It seems strange I'm doing everything the way I always do and with the same Medias and all of a sudden things are not working properly. If I have to buy another DVD burner I'm going to have more than what they have.
As I mentioned, I hope it's OK to have this topic on hold for a bit encase the cause does happen to be something else this time?

It's Fixed. It Was What I Thought
I fixed it. It was what I thought at some stage. I got things working with Plus discs. I thought Minus discs were causing it. I must add, I don't blame the Minus discs 100% because I believe my DVD burner was the main cause. I've had this before where another DVD burner of mine was cause Minus discs to burn incorrectly and Plus discs were fine. I guess that is the same thing repeated again and I have to keep buying Plus discs now.
My Firmware is up-to-date because I checked at Freecom and their latest version of Firmware for my DVD burner is the one I have.
