    new computer

Ok I have decided not to put any more money into my cpu and have decided to start fresh and build one I'm fine picking harddrives & burners but know absolutely nothing about processors and motherboards I want it to be able to run multiple apps at same time and support both gaming and video. It will probably take 2 months economically to finish can anyone help me with the motherboard and processor I want one that's very up to date all my current hardware is ide so one that I can use my stuff on is ideal but if that's not wise I will buy sata

    that's the conflict

    ide is being phased out

you can build a good computer with dual core and try to stay away from the newest motherboards, save money and keep ide

I'd rather go sata because I plan on building something to last 3-4 years and if I buy sata and upgrade then I can transfer my hardware

pci controller cards work great for ide hard drives but are problematic with
          dvd burners

well that's actually ok because i just bought a western digital caviar 320gb like 3 months ago The whole prob is i want a video card but my board is agp 8x so if i buy a good one and then get a new cpu next year its useless I have an insufficient power supply and my ram is ddr400 i have 752mb i want more but at the price of ram to buy more for this cpu is senseless again because next year it's useless / my problem is I know absolutely nothing about boards or processors that match
