Thanks Chewy, looks like some interesting reading.
I'll go hang out at extreme systems later and see if I can find out more info on temps.

O.k. this ? prompted me to do a search to see what artic silver 5 is and what it is used for. artic silver 5 was used when his hsf was reseated during the mobo change out. What is a hsf and what is a mobo? It doesn't seem to explain in the searches how to apply or where to apply?
In my search it compared Arctic Silver Ceramique to this and it did appear that Ceramique was probably even better than the Arctic Silver 5. Your thoughts on this is appreciated.
In one article it compared another compound to this and said the item came with templates to set on the cpu to show you where to apply the compound. I didn't show the templates however.

I know that it is applied somewhere between the cpu and heat sink. Is this correct? Is this all done after the cpu is pressed into place in the correct positioning? First installing the cpu and then applying the Arctic Silver 5.

lapping the interfaces and use of premium compound will yield a few degrees

use of a generic compound would usually be associated with a low skill level by the technician and consequent arm dismemberment

I usually try to spend extra on a good heatsinkfan, his was OK, there is even a larger but heavier thermaltake model
