Removal Tool Or Any Other Method?

I decided to uninstall GTA: SA and re-install it from scratch. I first put GTA: SA DVD-ROM in because some software needs the discs for uninstalling. When I was doing that I got this message. It was an error message that mentioned my I-Drive. I installed GTA: SA in one of my external hard drives and the one I used was my I-Drive then and then it switched to my J-Drive and my J-Drive switched to my I-Drive except part of my PC doesn’t know that. I got this error message when I went in Add & Remove Programs and the same error message appeared when I went in All Programs, selected the Rockstar folder, chose GTA: SA and clicked on Uninstall. Anyway, the message is in the image. <BR>

<br>When I got that error message from both methods I knew things were more harder. My PC was searching for GTA: SA in the wrong drive except my PC doesn’t know what’s what on that because of a broken location because of two drives swapping over for each. I won’t go into that any further because I don’t want to get warned about double posting and Chewy knows more about this because he was replying to me kindly with more info for a few days starting about five days ago.
<br>When I got this error message when I was trying to uninstall GTA: SA, I went into my hard drive where GTA: SA was and I deleted the folder and I deleted it from under All Programs.<BR>
I rebooted and ejected GTA: SA and let it go back in and instead of it showing the Install icon, it shown the Run icon instead where parts of the game was still there. I thought some would be in the System32 folder at least but I thought I could overwrite them. When I returned to Add Or Remove Programs, I noticed GTA: SA was still there and that is blocking the rest of the uninstallation ready for re-installation. I used Norton Go Back to reverse to my Safe Point but it failed because when I deleted GTA: SA from my external hard drive, there was a message about if it was deleted, it would be permanently deleted if I continued and that was because there was so much data. At first I didn’t give it a thought. The reason why Norton Go Back failed was because most of the game was permanently deleted. That is why Norton Go Back can’t get GTA: SA back. I did try my Windows XP Search and I did locate a GTA: SA folder that looked like the one that was causing this and when I deleted it the problem still remained. Every time I put the GTA: SA DVD-ROM in it thinks I want to run the game, not re-install it. Part of the game is still stuck in either my C-Drive or my J-Drive. I mostly believe it’s in my C-Drive. Is there a removal tool to get rid of the game so that I can start again from scratch?<br>
So, I have part of GTA: SA that I can’t delete the rest of and I can’t overwrite it.<br>

Is this game on your external drive & the C drive as well? Easy enough to remove from the external.; If there is nothing else on there, or at least in a partition?, reformat it. (The external)

As for the C drive, I know some games/programs are nasty to dump; Sometimes you have to reinstall the game or program & use its' own uninstaller, instead of add/remove.

Maybe Chewy has more thoughts on this...

As for the C drive, I know some games/programs are nasty to dump; Sometimes you have to reinstall the game or program & use its' own uninstaller, instead of add/remove.

I installed the game in one of my external hard drives except it was my I-Drive at first. Over the weekend, my I-Drive switched to the J-Drive and the J-Drive switched to the I-Drive. I tried uninstalling the game from my hard drive and it failed because my PC was trying to locate it in my I-Drive when it was in my J-Drive now. I went into the folder in my J-Drive and deleted the game folder and what was in All Programs. I got the same problem again because my PC searches for that hard drive as my I-Drive. My I-Drive is strange because is't it's listed as a drive that I don't have. When I click on the I-Drive a message tells me to put a disc in and I don't have that hardware. That drive appeared out of nowhere about a week after I bought my new PC.

Anyway, I tried the Window XP Search and I found one interesting folder and deleting it and that failed for me to re-install. When I enter the GTA: SA DVD-ROM it always thinks I want to play the game instead of install it due to more of the game remaining. I believe my C-Drive has traces that's stopping things as well. I'll try some other things before formatting my J-Drive because I'll have to back-up about 80GB's of data first that will take ages. Just as well I have two other large hard drives.

Thanks for the format idea on that hard drive, I didn't think of that. How many people want to name their PC as Mr. Bean?

It will take a long time to back up 80 GB of data, which you should have backed up as a precaution anyway, in case the HD would fail.

Do you have the J/I drive? disconnected when trying to install the game on C? That way, the pc (hopefully) will allow you to install the game w/o looking for the external. There are obviously some remnant files lurking that is pointing to the original install location, & in the end, a reformat of C might be the only way to clear all the junk left over?

If it were mine, I might be tempted to do a sys. restore to the earliest possible date, to see if that does anything - probably just a shot in the dark...

What I did was, I shut down my PC, turned off both my external hard drives and booted-up and tried re-installing GTA: SA and I had the Play icon instead of the Install icon so it's what I thought, parts of the game is lingering in my C-Drive and I believe it's in my System32 folder but I don't want to explore that folder with risks encase I mess my whole PC up.

I tried Norton Go Back with the basic mode and the advanced mode and it failed. I prefer Norton Go Back because you can go back in time by the minutes and hours, not just by the days. The reason why Norton Go Back failed me was because at some point when I had problems uninstalling GTA: SA with that I-Drive error message, I went into the hard drive where the game was, deleted the folder and the rest under All Programs. When I deleted the folder from my J-Drive that was where I installed the game, the data was so big it couldn't go in the Recycle Bin and it was permanently deleted and that is why Norton Go Back failed to get it back. I did try amny more time and of course, still no joy. There are traces of GTA: SA in my C-Drive and more in my J-Drive but my PC thinks they are in my I-Drive instead of my J-Drive. My PC is confused, it is acting dumb without knowing nothing is in my I-Drive because it thinks I have hardware plugged in there when I don't. It thinks my I-Drive is a CD Drive. I tried switching the drives around the other day under Computer Management but the I-Drive doesn't appear in there. Spooked beyond belief.

start => settings => control panel => administrative tools => computer management



right click on the drive in question and you can change it this way:

H drive: rename to your last drive plus one letter
rename J to H
rename new last drive to j

Many thanks for the suggestion. I tried that over the weekend over a different issue and the I-Drive never shown itself for me to change things over. I don't know why. Chewy and me call my I-Drive as a mystery drive because it came out of nowhere after what I told him in another thread of mine and is is how strange it is when it never shows under Computer Management for me to change things over. A virus or Spyware never caused this because it started when I booted-up my PC when I forgot to turn my two external hard drives on first. This was over the weekend. Somehow my PC still thinks part of my I-Drive is one of my hard drives when it isn't.
