Sometimes when I reboot or shut down I get the not responding error message telling me about CTFMON.exe. What is CTFMON.exe and why does that error message sometimes appear when I either reboot or shut down?

btw here's a little programmer's gizmo so you can right click on a COM dll or ActiveX and unregister it before uninstalling. Saves typing in that regsvr32 /u whatever jazz:

When you run it your Registry will consume the settings so backing up your Registry first is always a good idea. It just uses the regsvr32.exe that's already on your system.

(btw Chris Sells who wrote the .reg script is an author of C# programming books so you don't have to be too paranoid.)
