    Latest scam from the ukraine? is get you to download a video codec to view an online video(watch for new variations on this theme) after the codec/trojan is installed you start getting a new program AntiVirGear which pops up and finds the infection, after paying them money to register it supposedly cleans the trojan they put on your system, at least until they decide to hit you up again.

    I had one of those about a year ago. It was an SOB to get rid off as registry entries had to be deleted etc. (I think it was virus burst)

    But now when I get a notice that a "codec" is required to "play" a video. I do NOT download the codec and just leave that site. Usually the codecs I use are updated automatically on my machine and have not had to install one in a VERY long time.
