I did, no go. Firmware doesn't support it, apparently a lot of the new drives don't support it, go figure.

@soup - a suggestion to make it easier to swap out the DVD drives when ya wanna use a different one that is not installed. Get some longer SATA data and power cables and swap the drives out from the front and not have to open the case. Not registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums

Thanks jm1647, my case is cable full & the only drive that is easy to swap out is the top one, which lucky for me is the SATA, so longer cables would be a good idea so I wouldn't have to take the side of all the time.
@Chewy, (LMAO) although I wouldn't go as far as drilling the hole, or would I?

since this whole thread has left the realm of practicality, I would suggest a final solution
stack 2-3 of these esata cases on top of your computer

if you power down to unhook it's safe
I hate to see the wear and tear on the connections myself
the new esata hdd cases come with adapter plates that mount in an empty slot in the back of your computer
these new 5.5 cases are just now starting to hit the market
I have been waiting a long time for esata to hit big, it's here to stay
One enclosure even comes with a laptop card
we will see laptops and external burners being just as capable as towers, then I might consider them almost real computers
at least for non gamersComment

@ NightTran, no worries, it's wide open.
@Chewy, now why don't they build one of those that can hold 2 or 3 drives, instead of stacking? or is that called a tower?
BTW, I always power down & shut the switch off at the back of the tower. I shouldn't be swapping in & out much longer.

there also tons of cool cases you can use too
I made myself one out of Oak, havent quite finished it, but I plan to finish up the details to make it look old school with the big old crystaled egg shape lights on it and big old switches for and external box, then I thought it might be cool just to make it a Linux driven NAS box, or just leave it as it big enough to hold 4 drives 2x80mm Fans in front, 1x120mm top mounted exhaust, and an Enermax 465W PSU with the extra hook ups removed
