Here is a nice little Firefox I picked up in another forum

Internet Explorer IE loads generally quicker than FireFox FF, because a portion of IE is pre-loaded by the OS via windows "prefetch." Firefox does not use windows prefetch, but it can & will speed up loading of FF.

Right Click FF shortcut > choose properties > at 'Target' at the end of the line, which looks like "...firefox.exe" add a space plus /prefetch:1

So the end of the Target line would look like:

...firefox.exe /prefetch:1

Choose apply then OK. The second time you start FF it will be much quicker. First start of FF info is going to the OS's prefetch, for future speedier starts.

I find the pipelining tweaks and not installing too many add-ons is a good way to keep load times down.

The preloader seems like a good way to go if load times are slow. There is also a method to speed up load times that involves compressing DLL's and executables, but I think mine loads just fine without digging into that.

My firefox seems to load faster now on it's own, I think it's the newer versions and maybe windows has auto optimized it on the hard drive. I am not a big one on putting much in the prefetch, firefox has to have a lot more extra ram than IE since it's not integrated into the OS.

I don't mind if Firefox rumbles a bit to load. It's the
Broken Back Button(tm) that drives me crazy!! Of course it's
working as designed so it will never get fixed!!

What can I do though? It seems Opera is determined to never
have an AutoCopy feature. It's so annoying to have to click "Copy"
from a context menu when I've highlighted the text. I mean, what
else would you do with it than Copy? (This probably doesn't bother
hotkey people but I like the mouse and it's a feature long overdue
in Opera.)

After some search I found 1/2 a loaf anyway. I found an Opera "make a button"
site so now I have a "Copy Button" that copies highlighted text to the clipboard.
Not smooth as the Firefox Auto Copy but at least it saves me opening the context
menu or using that "hot click" and clicking the mouse 4 times to copy a line.

I just found a nice Firefox extension similar to Opera Wand for logins:

If you check the option Automatically search for login data and highlight form fields
it highlights the login similar to Opera Wand and you just click the Key on the toolbar or use a hotkey to login.

Plus the developer hangs around the Mozilla forum answering questions.

Firefox loads instantly anyway, in my case. Don't see much use for the "tweak". As if less than one second is too long? I'm not that impatient.

Almost Like Free Commander "Layout" Tool

Guess some things go over my head. I was looking at macro add-ons for
Firefox to automate opening multiple tabs and logging in etc..

After messing around I found instead it's easier to just use the
built-in Firefox multi-tab bookmarking. Esp. with the Secure Login
addon it makes it simple. (I'm using FF 2.0.0.16 btw)

Load a set of tabs the way you want them in Firefox. Right click the
mouse on a tab and select Bookmark All Tabs. Save it to a folder name. Now
when you go in that folder the bottom option will be "Open All in Tabs".
For stuff you use a lot you can move this folder onto the Personal Toolbar.

If you are using the Secure Login add-on, after all the tabs open then
you can just change tabs and click the key to start the login on each
tab. By the time you go through your tabs the logins should be
complete on the sites at the beginning of your tabs. Just eliminates the
wait for initial page load after login for each tab.


Don't know why I didn't see it a long time ago. Must've been too easy.

firefox compact themes

I like to put my most frequently used bookmarks on the Personal Toolbar. Unfortunately the Firefox one doesn't auto-wrap like Opera. But I've discovered Compact Themes which helps. By using folders almost exclusively on the Personal Toolbar and a compact theme I can squeeze more on without the wrapping.

This Blue Ice Lite theme is nice in that it doesn't just squash the folders close together but uses a delta icon instead of the folder icon. It compacts the space used while still maintaining some spacing between the icons.
