If you have a computer that's already backed up and ready for a reinstall anyway, that's what I would test it on. But then that doesn't really tell you anything, you would need to slipstream it into a clean total install cd and then test. And why go to that bother before the final release comes out?

Downloaded SP-3 RC and tried to install the update, and it does not finish. It never finalizes the installation. The good news is that it will roll back to SP 2 I see no problems so far, after the rollback from the installation SP-3 RC. I have even uninstalled Norton's system works 2005, to see if the sp will install. That did not work, so have no idea why it will not install.

Hey Blu, no problem. Glad I could be of service. I needed to do a image of my hard drive anyways. I did a complete image of my hard drive before I started to play with SP-3.

Not just M$. It's kind of in the nature of the beast. Pressure is on to crank out fixes and get 'em out the door. There are so many variations of hardware, software and fix interactions that the only time you get a really thorough testing is for a service pack. Best advice is to wait for an SP final release before taking the plunge. That's the main reason I turn all that autoupdate business off first thing when I get a new PC.

That's one area where open source excels. People doing the fixes don't get fired if they're not ready by Friday afternoon.
