Windows Explorer Question

Hi,

I've been having this "issue" with my external hard drives ever since I unplugged them once and plugged them back in.

When I first formatted the hard drives, all the files would be aligned to the grid. It would fill up the width of the screen before going to the next "line". This is the way I like my files to be showed. So if I were to download something, it would go on the far bottom and right.

Additionally, if I deleted something, all the other files would move left one.

Now, it was originally arranged as "sort by name". Every time I'd download a file, it would make them all ABC order... which is annoying as I can't remember the names of stuff sometimes.

I got it to remember where I put files, but it's no longer horizontally contained. It just keeps expanding in both directions.

click on view
icons
and arrange by modified

I personally like details with the all file extensions showing
and in the windows classic format

This way, it still shows all folders at the top.

I used to be able to make a new folder and have it right in there with the icons.

Also... it never moved to the bottom of the list if I modified something, it's like Windows default configuration or something I think

drfsupercenter when I tried View->Thumbnails Arrange Icons by Name with Show In Groups checked it looks like your screen shot. Seems like it's the Show In Groups that determines if the folders will be listed at the top or mixed in with the other files.
