What would you suggest? (Hard drives)

Hi,

With my birthday coming up, I want a main gift to ask for. I also really want a 1TB hard drive, since those are now becoming affordable.

But I'm not sure which brand/kind to ask for. I found a USB external one (no-name, but does that matter?) for $200. Western Digitals are somewhere above $250, etc. So here's what I'm wondering:
Does it matter if it's a brand name or not?
And would it make more sense to get internal instead of external? (Because of the limited transfer speed of USB) I'd probably move all my important data to that drive, and use the others I have now as backups. Do they even make internal 1TB drives?

Answers to any of these questions would be appreciated.

Chewy, if I bought 2 500GB drives... would I have more or less space than a single 1TB drive?

I don't have eSATA, how would I get it?

And are 1TB internal drives cheaper than external?

All my PCI slots are full... I'd have to get an IDE controller that has e-Sata as well.

And I really kinda wanted 1TB, 500GB drives are cheaper (even for $100 or less), but obviously don't hold as much...

Unless you think there are no 1TB drives worth getting at the moment...

for the price now I would get 750 GB, I have 6 external 2 750,3 500 and one 320 usb are fine if you just store data

And do no-name hard drives tend do die after a year? I have one like that and it's worked fine for me. Buy.com has a $200 one by Fantom, though I don't know that brand
