One that I've used in the past is Gadwin PrintScreen.

I think that one is as easy (and cheap) as you can get it.

For more advanced stuff I use GIMP 2. Also free.

    Both programs work in Vista.

Irfanview - (free) will also work. Hit the "Print Screen" button which copies to clipboard, then open Irfanview, paste into, resize to what you want, etc. It is pretty easy to use. GIMP is more powerful, but the learning curve is steeper, at least for me.

I've always used GPS and like their simple GUI. After using this software forever, I decided it was about time to DL their newer freeware version, so a couple of weeks ago, I DLed and installed their latest version. Unfortunately my JPEG screenshots are not nearly as good quality (at the same compression) as the older version (just by eye-balling the original JPGs as well as viewing them in photo-editing software such as GIMP, and I'm considering uninstalling the newer version and reinstalling the older version. I don't know if it's something they've changed in their freeware version but the jpeg pic quality is not the same. The older version is better at least as far as the jpeg quality. I like the newer GUI a little bit better, but not that much to keep it over the older version if the newer version's pic quality is not as good. I'm going to try some TIFFs, PNGs, and BMPs this weekend and see if they're the same as well (newer version bad vs older version good). BTW, I learned a long time ago to always keep your older SW DLs while trying out "new and improved" versions, especially ones that also have shareware "souped up" versions as they May or May-Not actually be ""improved.

Hi Chewy. I'm totally lost w/this paint thing. Is all of accessories needed in order to put paint on my pc? I clicked on clipboard and paint under accessories then clicked ok. Nothing happens. Can't find it on my start-up menu or anywhere. Also changed clipboard from disabled to manual in services but still nothing. Is it needed period for screenshots? Do any of the proggies mentioned above dependent on paint or clipboard or vice versa to work?

@Kabuchan. Which version of FastStone are you referring to? There're like 6 or so different versions.

Well in add/remove window components it gives you a choice of which accessories to add by checking off the box. it says a grey box indicates part of accessories will b added. It doesn't add them though. I did click next and it told me to insert the windows disc that came w/my pc. I have to insert the disc again to turn on paint and clipboard? That's like a re-install.

if you removed them, they were really deleted and you have to put them back

media player and IE just turn off
