left click start => right click programs => left click Explore all users

then

left click start => right click programs => open

You will then have 2 windows open to drag around shortcuts.

Create a folder called Games and drag all of your games into that folder.

I also created folders called DVD tools and music tools.

Gary, I have been using both methods explained. Sometimes it is a little more work to decide which one to pull it from and to put it in. It doesn't seem like it is the same each time. Also sometimes it gives a little pop up that this will change the way it is used for other users on the computer.


I have five users listed on my computer but have never checked to see what changes if any that it did make. When I change something on my login and then put it in start/menu folders does it change it for everyone.

Miles thnx. Quick ?. Do you find it better to have the folders on your desktop or maybe somewhere else like in My Documents. Only difference I see is that the My Documents folder will have other 1's like My pictures etc... The shortcuts will still open from the program files folder in c:. It's just that I'm w/you in that it started bugging me to turn my pc on and boom, I'm flooded w/all those icons. Let me just say I just got some reading glasses for the 1st time. 40+ automatically takes you into a whole new dimension if you know what I mean. Lol...

I have a single row of folders along the left edge on the screen. But there's all kinds of little setups you can make if you have spare time to kill. One I did for a while was to make a folder inside Documents with links to the Desktop folders inside. I sized it just large enough to see all the folders and put it in the lower right hand corner of the desktop. I'm right handed and I thought it was a drag to move the mouse all the way over to the left hand side to open the folders. Then to make it even more of a case of boxes within boxes, I dragged a shortcut to this outer folder over to my launcher program which is always near the task tray. Click on the launcher and then the folder of desktop folders opens right above it. After a while I forgot to open it though. I wanted to see how it would work.

I have aliases too using DosKey. For instance 'sv' opens the shared video folder over the Lan and also the video folder on the current machine. 'down' opens the download
folder on the current machine, a download folder on the Lan, and the download folder on the other partition if it's on the dual boot machine. When I download a file if it's something I'm going to use on all machines I just type 'down' and copy it over while I'm still thinking about it.

Guess I have too much free time.

But the funny thing is I almost never launch anything out of the Start Menu. I just used
that organizer thingy so that when programs install there it doesn't cover the whole desktop. I usually only go in the Start Menu if I'm looking for programs I forgot I had.

I got you Miles. Thnx. I switched everything over to the right side. It makes sense. Never occurred to me it would make a difference. Lil lost on why you would make a folder in Documents w/links and then put it back on the desktop? Probably could only make links from another window than same one?

It's just a preference so that it's hidden away. One less on the desktop.

Miles by desktop in this example do you mean the desktop where the theme would be? Oh I think I get it. The 1 less folder would be the 1 w/the links in it? If you put it back on the desktop that would b another folder?

Right. But as I say I tend not to use it very often. After awhile there's too many double-clicks. I guess that's one reason I like to use aliases. Cuts down on icon overload.
