remove operating sys from dual op system help

Long time no see everyone ! To bad to hear that there are certain items we cant talk about anymore but o well life goes on.

My real problem is I have to hard drives in my machine and a couple months ago I installed vista for a trial onto my machine that had xp on it. the installation went just fine and still works. When you are booting up it goes to a screen and ask which operating system I would like to run. Heres my problem I would like to get rid of vista now and leave xp bc it has slowed down my pc considerably. I DONT just want to remove the reference from the boot.ini. file but actually delete the entire operating system and all its files bc it is probably way to large to have on my pc. For some reason when i went to boot.ini it only shows the one op sys anyways.

You posted part of the answer to your own question. Your post says:

That explains why only one OS is listed in Boot.ini

If Vista is on a different physical drive, can't you just take that drive out of your boot options in bios? If so, do it. Then boot up to XP, and reformat the drive that has Vista on it.

Seems like that should work. But then, I've never been in that particular situation, so don't quote me. Just an idea.

vista has altered your boot.ini file, there's another file there which has taken over to give you the boot choices

on top of that there's probably some references in the bootsector of the drive(that 8MB)

having vista on a seperate drive should not have slowed your computer down at all

so what excatly do I need to do chewy. are you for sure that it is on a different drive bc it really really seems to be so much slower.

Show Hidden Folders/Files

• Open My Computer.
• Go to Tools > Folder Options.
• Select the View tab.
• Scroll down to Hidden files and folders.
• Select Show hidden files and folders.
• Uncheck (untick) Hide extensions of known file types.
• Uncheck (untick) Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
• Click Yes when prompted.
• Click OK.
• Close My Computer.

well I looked and honestly i dont even know where or what I am looking for.

the xp ones are
ntldr pagefile.sys boot.ini RECYCLER Documents and Settings Windows and program files
and should be on C

there are others of 0 size

what do you see on D drive?

all there is on the D drive is $recycle.bin recycler and system volume info but it say that one is empty and wont let me access it.

I would back up data and start all over and install windows xp
