Isn't the Zalman the cpu cooler? If so I have it. I'll get to the overclocking soon.

      the zalman is it

metal standoff's are those funny brass things that come with the case, have a male thread on one end and a female on the other, the center will be hex shapped

they screw into the mobo backplate and have special bolts/screwheaded to fasten the mobo into the case

that alignment is the tricky part

Ok. I got it. Can I start putting it together w/out the video card and add the card Monday?
I have everything except the card and the round cables. I have to measure to see if I'll need longer ide cables or even longer sata 1s for the hds and my sata burner. Thnx.

Good to see we're back in action. Thought it was some spam/virus. Anyhow everything looking ok. Zalman is in and so are 2 burners and front panel cables. Can hold 3 burners. Thinking put them in even if 1 not connected? The power led is shown as green and white per Rosewill but it's blue and white. Has a 2 pin clip and an extended 2 pin peripheral. Can't find where to plug in the clip. Thinking the 2 pin peripheral backwards compatible and should hook up to a peripheral on psu?

Grease from Zalman good for now? It's in and not too crazy about taking it off for Arctic if not a big deal. It was a bit.h putting it in. Simple instr. but clipping it other story. Lol..

Xtra fan on Rosewill has male/female peripherals. Str8 to psu? No other connectors besides 3 pin 1s other than the cpu fan. Skipped the Fan mate controller on Zalman. Big deal? Just put it str8 into the mobo in cpu fan connector. Might need some ties. Lil long on the front panel and the case came w/a 1394 firewire which mobo doesn't support. Thnx.

if you get into cam dv firewire capture a good texas instrument chipset pci card can be had from newegg for ~20$, it will have an internal firewirepinout usually

Ok. I'll keep this on the back burner for now. How can I hook up that chassis/power fan to a 3 pin connector on the mobo? It has a 4 pin female and male peripheral. Searched newegg but couldn't come up w/anything. Rather put it str8 into the mobo rather than hooking it into 1 of the xtensions from the psu. Mobo could monitor the fan also. Thnx.

Btw I hooked up the 2 hds. Are you suppose to take out the tin backings in the back of the cage and leave them off? the front bezel covers the back of the hds but I left them in. Trap more heat if left in? Damage hds?

Cables all over the place. Too long. Rosewill supplied me w/4 sata data cables. I'm going to check and see if they make them shorter.

the standard molex(large 4 pin/male/female) has no fan speed circuit so you can't monitor

Got you. Is that fan mate 2 fan controller from zalman necessary? I didn't even bother w/it.

Thnx Doc. New round cables should b here today. Chewy the video card comes today also. they rescheduled. I haven't been into Bios. Can I use the same monitor/keyboard/w/this new build? Asaic I'll give it a go into bios and most probably ask for suggestions on configuring the 2 hds, Raid and all that. 250gb for apps. and 500gb. for storage? ! step at a time.

Forget raid, that's iffy and should only be done with matched hard drives

striped for performance geeks who want fast I/O or mirrored for ultra conservatives that want data security

I would partition the 250 into a 50 gig C system partition and 200 gig data

the 500 could be just one single large data partition

Very important non replaceable data could go on both hard drives

I have made a system partition as small as 10-15 gigs for windows xp

Many vid apps want to use 5 gigs or more on C tho

I was amazed when i started using a second drive and a simple video edit of a 4.4 gig
video only took 2 minutes going from one drive to the other

The video card's in. There's 2 connectors w/a s-video connector on the rear panel. The 2 adapters it came w/r not the same as the 1 I use for my monitor. I'm guessing this is for xtra goodies...Games. etc... The video card also has a fan. I didn't see any hook up to a cable so I'm guessing the mobo will power that up. The chassis fan the tower came w/was right in front of the cpu fan. It didn't make sense that the cpu fan would blow towards it and the chassis fan would blow back. I flipped it so that the cpu would blow and the chassis fan would suck that out the box as an out take? everything seems hooked up. Any tips b4 hooking it up to my monitor and speakers and powering it up?

Btw found some 8in. sata cables at a local internet cafe/computer part store. Guy drove a hard bargain. Got them 4 same as newegg.

keep the side off the case and a close eye out when you power it up

go into bios and watch volts and temps

make your tweaks w/o any overclocking at all

then after everything's set load the OS, make sure you partition for a system drive first tho is that's what you decide to do
