    XD Cards

    Hi,

My mom has an Olympus camera that uses XD cards. Her old 256MB card broke (it shows a bunch of corrupted files every time you put the card in the computer), so she bought a new 2GB card. But this card doesn't seem to be working either.

The new card is "XD Type M" (not sure what the types mean), and if I format it as either FAT or FAT32, the camera only sees it as a 1GB card. She took some pictures on the card, and Windows said the card wasn't formatted. However, the camera could see the pictures and plugging in the USB showed them in Explorer. But the camera can only use 1GB of the 2GB.

Is my mom's camera broken? Or does it have to do with "Type M"? I really don't know much about memory cards (other than where to buy them LOL), so I thought maybe someone here uses them and might have had a similar issue.

When it comes to your pictures, quality and reliability can’t be compromised. That’s why the xD-Picture Card is the finest compact, durable removable media your camera will ever know. View which cameras are compatible with xD Type M and Type M+ cards.

Her camera is a D-580 Zoom.
According to that list it should be compatible with a 2GB M-type card.

So does that mean the camera's broken? If two cards are having formatting issues... I don't think our luck is that bad.

How are you formatting the card?

I tried both FAT and FAT32, and both do the same thing.
