Blu, Cynthia, ... et al ...

What do you guys are suggesting to STAY with AVG 8.0 or scrap it and go with Avast!?!?

    Thanks,

I had Avast for almost a year before but then some update slowed down the internet connection so I went back to AVG. If you disable the crappy AVG plugin in your browser(s), AVG is working as it did before ver 8.

Turning Off VRDB ... what the heck is that ... !!!!
in short avast by default generate a list of all files so later if anyone is infected it can restore to previous condition.

but its an overload on system and i dont like this function, it works fine witout this option.

yes default install is just fine. after restart, right click one of the icons and choose disable VRDB and combined both icons.....
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

cant say bout old version as iv just started frm 4.8.

avg sorry to say i hated the last free version because it allows lot of viruses/trogen/malware pass and didnt even prompt of any threat, like my older symantec did that made me switch to avast.

Well, I think AVG doesn't like odd numbered days. Today it started the scan but scanned nothing. Think I'll set it to weekly anyway

                    More information about this here:

Digital Digest has been affected, but not in a huge way as described by other sites. I'm still investigating what other problems it has been causing.
I used to use AVG and then I found out it doesn't scan everything as much as we all thought it did. I use Avast. It detects more and it does deeper scans. They can take hours on end depending on how much data you have but that is because it's doing a deeper and better scan. You can download a free version at: http://vvww-avast.com/?t=avast1E If you chose to install this one, at some point you'll be asked for your e-mail address so that they can send you a free registration code. Be sure to set it as the Thorough Scan as in the deep scan. This software has audio messages for auto updates and when a virus alert appears. The virus alerts start with a siren. Of course it's up to you but I prefer Avast.

One time when I downloaded software and burnt them to a CD, AVG told me the disc was OK, when I opened a folder in the CD when I changed Anti-Virus', Avast detected two viruses in the CD that AVG failed to detect. As I said Avast does a much deeper scan. Of course this is all up to you but it's a suggestion. What else I hated about AVG is, their updates site was always down like Norton's.

                      Avast never slowed mine down.

I'd never part with Avast. Panada is another that is supposed to be good but I can't comment 100%. It scans for so many things at once but I don't know if there are any glitches in it. We all welcome Norton's to the iggy bin even though theirs scans for loads of things at once but the main problem with Norton's is it fails to scan so many files and folders and one big folder (depending on the size - depending how long you've used your PC since you either started using it from purchase or from a format), Norton fails to scan the System Volume Information folder and viruses can go there easy. Luckily most viruses enter the Temporary Internet Folder that can be deleted easy as waving "hello". However, Panda might also be another top Anti-Virus but I only used the on-line version for a checkout when I wanted to scan but the on-line version did install some components.

The only software from Symantec, Norton that I trust is Go Back. The rest from what I tried is junk. Their Utilities also causes more problems than what you might have in the first place. I remember using that one time and eight errors were detected and when I tried to fix them and did another scan straight afterwards to test things, I had over 15 errors. Where did they come from. PC Doctor that comes with it crashes all the time and the light stays red where it aborts its job.

That's just a simple setting. AVG doesn't scan every file by default. You can change that in the settings. How much deeper can you go than to have it scan every single file on your PC, and scan the registry? AVG does that. Just not by default.

                          Never had that happen.

I have to agree that AVG has taken a turn for the worse with this latest version but so far I haven't experienced anything different besides a few minor irritations. As far as the issue with other antivirus apps catching things that AVG didn't, again, I think that's because you didn't have AVG set up to scan every file type.

                            Hi folks,

                            @ Dazuk ...

Q1: Iis the Avast version URL in your post different than the "Home Edition"?

Q2: Can I use any e-mail address (Yahoo or Gmail, ...) so they can send me the "Free Reg. Code"?

                            Thanks,

                            G!
