    Firefox Question

OK, this one really annoys me...

Ever since I switched to Firefox, I have been unable to play background music, or any embedded midis. It keeps asking to install QuickTime plugin, then says it failed and asks me to do it manually.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Stuff like my website are totally silent now and there should be music!

You updated to Firefox 3? If so than when you click on your link it will ask you if you want to update plugins, but also says some plugins required by this page have been blocked for your protection.

When you select details you get this page which just says it should no longer be used and let's you access the bug# and info.

So what that all means is it's about time you updated that website of yours, lol.

I have version 2.0.0.14. Should I upgrade? The one I have is working fine so far...

I mean are there any non-QuickTime music player plugins?

You can still play the music with FF3 (without quicktime) on your website, just have to open the midi and play.

So there's no way to do it automatically?

Internet Explorer can do it just fine... why the heck can't Firefox?

Because as I said, it isn't deemed safe by Firefox, if you read some of the info in the bug #, it mentions security issues.

If you really like IE you may want to try Maxthon. It's IE based but it has had tabbed browsing for quite awhile and users have written quite a few extensions for it.

Only reason I don't use it anymore is it's too easy for a BHO to hook onto it in hostile fashion since it's essentially an IE control with Maxthon window dressing. Still if you
like IE you'll probably grow to love Maxthon. It's free and if you google you'll find a bunch of extension sites for it.

Well I use IETab for things like Windows Update... so I can program it to open my site and others with BGM using the IE renderer.

I just don't get why I can't say "Yes it's not safe, stfu about it and leave me alone" and play background music automatically? Is there an installer for the QuickTime plugin? It says I can do it manually but I don't have the exe...

Also, you know how IE lets you run EXEs without saving them first? Is there any way to do that in Firefox? I know it's disabled by default for security, but since I know what I'm doing, it makes running those quickie-installers easier than having to download, run, and delete.

I can't think of an instance when I'd run an .exe file before downloading it. But if you're dependent on IE features you may as well use an IE based browser since no others are going to handle ActiveX Controls anyway. Might as well go the whole 9 yards and sink or swim with it. I gather you haven't checked out Maxthon. I think you'll spend a lot of time on the extensions sites once you try it. Much zippier than IE and can do everything IE can do and more afaik.
