How to set up two networks w two routers

Hi,
I have two nic interfaces in each of two computers (1G). I have a Linksys BEFSX41 router that I am using to connect to the internet through a cable modem. I also have a D-Link DGL-4100 router. I also have a Samsung ML-3051ND printer with a build in eithernet connection. I am running Widows XP Pro SP2.

What I want to do is to set up two independent networks for the two computers. On one network (1st nic card in each machine) I want the internet connection. On the second I want an local lan that can be used to file share and printer share between the two computers (on the second nic card) and use the Samsung as a network printer. I want to use the DGL-4100 for the local lan since it supports 1G transfer rates. The protocol for the local lan must use DCHP to get the printer to be recognized and connected.

The problem I am having is that with both routers connected and doing DCHP, when I power up the computer, it won't connect to the internet. I have to shut down the Internal Lan connection by disabling the nic card in Network connections. Then I can access the internet through the Linksys. The Linksys IP address is 192.168.1.0 and the D-Link IP address is 198.168.0.0 This is not helped by the fact that I am somewhat ignorant with regard to lans, protocals etc.

I suspect the problem is that the computer can't decide which is the correct router to be connecting to for the internet connection when both routers are connected and active.

I've done an internet search, but non of the topics I have been able to find address this connection situation, or windows attemps to assign the connection to the IP address with the lowest address.

I'd appreciate any help that can be offered, or links to help sites to resolve the problem.

why don't u just use ur dlink to connect both ur computers and ur network printer.

why are u using both routers? i don't see any betterment from 2 separate connections for u.

Thanks for the link.

I was attempting to separate the connections for file and print sharing from the internet connection for security reasons.

One could use a single router for both the internet connection from each machine and for the file and printer sharing between the two however if I understand correctly having separate physical connections, one for the internet, and the other for printer and file sharing lowers the chance of someone penetrating your computer from the internet and getting at internal files. Also I was attempting to avoid having to devote one of the processors to function as a print server.

I'm not sure the link you supplied does what I had intended.

right click on the Dlink

properties

play around with configure and what's enabled(tcp/ip) should be disabled but file and printer sharing enabled

also see if you can use IE tools internet options and connectivity to set for the Linksys

you may have to reset some affinities by removing the ethernet adapters from device manager and rebooting

i have 2 intenet connection but from the same ISP and on the same cable, but diffrent static IP.

i have conected to a switch and from the switch i have connected 2 routers.
because i need two networks and each one should use diffrent intenet cable.

all the computers on both network see the internet normaly but they can't see each others.
i have all the com0uters having the same gateway and even the routers having same local ip.
i need to these computer see each otherews localy and by wirless

Thanks I'll give that a try. Do you share a cable modem via the switch, or do you have two cable modems? with each connected to individual routers that are connected to the switch? I just got a Samsung TV that can access the internet and as I read the manual be able to do file sharing for video play on the TV. I'll see how things work out.
