always wondered why ppl hate vista..

recent problem with my system, lead me to run my system with one memory module at a time, i always had atleast 2 gb ram, but for last few months i had 3 gb and i loved it. [yes vista that is]

    here what i found:

1 gb ram, horrible, cant imagine ppl usig vista with 1 gb, harddisk continous working, slugish performance, everything lags

2 gb, ull be happy or starting to get happy, little harddisk working/ thrashing... few mins and its fine

3 gb ull be very happy, specially if u have 2.0 c2d atleast and a decent graphic card. almost no hardisk usage after system boots.

4 gb ram, most will be wondering where the hell that memory went.

now more then 4 gb and u will be starting to get annoyed, because not all ur harware runs on 64 bit lol.

    Sounds bloatware to me ati.

XP runs merrily on 1Gb and not bad on 512Mb. I'll stick with that.

Xp is much easier to set up and to tweak IMHO.

        Hi guys,

Well ... I am with you guys & gals also ... but here is the darn problem, every new laptop only comes with Vista ... If I sponge clean the Hard Drive and install my XP ... where the heck can I find all the drivers for my different components on my new lappy ... since none of the Vendors send out Driver CDs anymore!?!?

        Any thoughts on this delimma???

        Thanks,
        G!

PS - I am thinking about changing my Handle to something Easier ... any Suggestions!

Vista looks more atractive but I prefer XP. Also, I don't like the way Microsoft changed the titles of some options and their locations. For example, when you right-click on the desktop, select Properties to get to Display Properties, there's only one tab with Vista but five with XP. Where are those missing four in Vista. I'm trying to find the Screensaver in my dad's Laptop in another location and I can't find it.

            Hi dazuk,

I am still on XP ... but I did play around Vista a little on my laptop that I returned since the GPU smoked on me within 1 week ...

Anyway, push the START button ... and On the right hand pane you should see something to effect "APPEARANCE" or soemthing like that ... that is where it is ...

But I don't remember if you click on anywhere on your desktop and say Properties ... I believe that should still work ... but not sure!

            G!

If you right click on the desk top you should see "personalize" then click on it and you should see several options, one of which is screen saver. If not, you can find it by going to>control panel>personalization.

Some manufactures still allow you to download drivers, and some do not. I would check their Web sites and see what is available.

There are tons of easy mods you can do to increase the performance of Vista. I dual boot 32 bit and 64 bit Ultimate and love them both. I can honestly say I don't miss XP at all.

Nice site and there are tons of tuts available for just about anything you can think of.

You probably won't find all the drivers necessary to make XP work on a laptop designed around Vista. You'll have to use Everest or something similar to get all your hardware information and start googling.

As for the nic, how about kwnog?

with 3 gigs i never had to do any mods atall, vista runs as good as xp for me with 3 gigs and no hdd activity for me after sp1. my vista is as it is installed, nothing changed anmd it works fine.

haha it actually make u disable everything to make vista look like xp.

my performance tweak is simple.... change ur hardware or add lot of ram.

can u run xp as good as it does on ur current system then on say 1.13 Ghz pentium 3? u cant right. why do u want to try vista run on older hardware.
