DVD File Opening Problem

I posted a message last week about my Windows Explorer crashing when I clicked on My Documents and the Windows Explorer error was followed by DR Watson Debugger error that froze my PC. I found out what caused those errors in a way. Every time I click on My Documents that has a folder that contains some home movie DVD files, that triggers these errors. I thought I might have corrupted home movie files. I put a pre-recorded DVD in and clicked on My Computer and entered those DVD files as a test and the same thing happened. Why can't my PC handle DVD files anymore? The test from opening pre-recorded DVD files proved it's not a corruption from my home movie DVD files. I'm not breaking any rules when I said I opened the files in a pre-recorded DVD, I'm only saying I did that test to narrow things down to get to the bottom of this. I never had this until a week ago. I've tried through another DVD burner and the same happened and the same when I add my home movie DVD files in my other hard drives. My two DVD burners and my three hard drives can't be causing this. This is so strange.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I had a machine with folders that contained files of a perticular type, they might have been .jpg files i'm not sure it's been a while. however the file were associated with a particular applicaton that had gotten corrupted, and every time I tried to browse that folder the machine would lockup or crash. the machine did not know what to do with them. When I tried to copy these files from one folder to the next, same thing. You may want to try and dis-associate or un-register the dvd files with any application.

Many thanks for the tip. Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean. Even when I go into the folder with the DVD files the error appears. Even when I don't go in the folder the error appears. I had some home movie footage that I put to DVD files ready for burning and the folder was in My Documents and every time I went in My Documents without opening the folder the error still appeared. I can't remember if I mentioned this before. I did a test where I put a pre-recorded DVD in on of my drives and when I clicked on My Computer and selected the drive, the same error appeared where it zapped through the VIDEO_TS folder the way it does in My Documents through my home movie folder. As I said, I don't even have to enter the DVD folder for this to happen, it comes through the closed folder. This makes things hard for me to do my home movies.

if you open any folder, at the top click tools. folder options, then file types. This should bring up a list of all file types used on your machine and their asociation with any perticular application, you can scroll thru them and if you see any file type that is commonly found on a dvd ".vob" files for one, click on it and see if it tells you it will open with and application example ".doc" files open with MS Word that is an association.
If you find a dvd file associated with an application, you can delete it. A file can be re-associated by right clicking on the file and clicking open-with and checking the always open with check box. some times files can get associated to an application accidentally in this manner, as many times the box is checked by default. I had found my problem when I tried to move files from one folder to another, one file type at a time, when I tried to move the files with the bogus association it died.
