Chewy, I'll have to wait until Big Brother is over before I can look to answer your questions...lol

I did have a 300GB IDE hard drive hooked via a PCI to IDE card and it worked great.

only jumper ull find on sata drive is very small on right side. u have to remove it for sata 3 gb/s to work, if left on ull drive will work as 1.5 only.
some older systems maynot support 3gb/s.

just a thought, did ur power connector for ur sata is proper installed / working.

Whilst booting up I have two options:

F2 = Setup

F12 = Boot Menu

When I press F2, under the Drives section it lists:

Drive 0 = SATA-0
Drive ID = ST3000110AS
Capacity = 80GB (this is the HD that came with the computer)
BIOS = This drive is controlled by the System BIOS
Link Speed = 3.0Gbs

Drive 1 = SATA-2
Drive ID = WDC WD5000AAKS-00A7B0
Capacity = 500GB (this is the HD that I just purchased from newegg)
BIOS = This drive is controlled by the System BIOS
Link Speed = 3.0Gbps

Drive 2 = PATA-0 (PRI IDE Master) - (Drive I just bought off newegg)
Controller = Parallel ATA
Drive ID = LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1L

Drive 3 = PATA-1 (PRI IDE Slave)
Controller = Parallel ATA
Drive ID = _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A

Then under SATA Operations it has two choices:

RAID Autodetect/ATA (RAID if signed drives, otherwise ATA) or RAID On (SATA is configured for RAID on every boot)

Its set on RAID Autodetect/ATA

So it is being seen by the BIOS

That did it doc!

Download the "Data Lifeguard Tools" and was able to auto change registry to recognize HD over 137GB and made 2 250GB (actually 232GB)partitions out of the drive.

(Although I thought having "Service Pack 3" installed over came the issue with recognizing HD over 137GB but guess I was wrong)

Thanks everyone for their time and suggestions!

I don't buy that expaination, the tools did something else, may just initialized the drive, but you had said the drive didn't show in device manager?

Now the SATA Lite-On drive I bought that I used that IDE to SATA adapter is locking up my entire computer every time I stick a DVD in.

Hi jmet. I'm lol myself cause I think you have the same dell I have. dimension e310? If not, really not relevant. dell hell like chewy says. also so much we could do w/entry level computer if that's the case. If not did you go to dell's site and make sure you got a compatible hd for your system? Just a thought. Also my 500gb hd that I bought 4 my new build wasn't being recognized either until I hooked the 250hd in sata 0 and the 500hd in sata 1. But I have 6 sata ports on my mobo. Why not try hooking up the 500gb alone and partition it however and use the 2nd sata port 4 your lite-on. Just a suggestion. It's a pita 4 the clean install but you'll get that lite-on working most likely.

I'm w/you atifsh. Everyone has a gripe w/something somewhere. My take. It's better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. 5 yr. warranty on seagate barracuda so I'm not going to sweat anything. I pulled off the jumper. Let it do w/e it can do.
