Playing it safe w/anti virus proggies and anti-spyware is better than nothing. Bottom line is that when they want to get you they will regardless. Friend of mine has a counter-virus attack proggie called viper something that he unleashes whenever he catches someone or something snatching his pc and infecting it. Once it hits you you're done. New computer period. No hostages.
    SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

Take the suggestions and follow the directions. The results will speak for themselves.

    Google is definitely our friend.

Sorry to disagree but irrespective of the difficulties in getting past firewalls etc. it's impossible to irreparably damage a PC via a remote software attack.

The only exception to this was the 'BBC Micro' produced here in the UK by Acorn in the 1980's where it was possible (due to an oversight in the design of the machine) to maliciously alter one of the voltage settings and fry the entire machine.

I use to feel that my friend who has this proggie was a bit overboard or just plain fos, until I researched some of the other stuff he would talk to me about. You'd be surprised at what you can get and do for the right $$$.

I'm using the same along w/Avira free. Guess no one took note of the various posts of how even w/the most protection some stuff just won't come out. Experience has always been the best teacher.

Safe hexing to this date since my 1st infection and all is well. Knock on wood.

How long does Avira take to scan? Zone Alarm is taking over 3 hours nowadays-from a mere 1 hr and 15mins if I recall when I first started using years ago, and I may consider not re-upping the subscription when it expires....

the best scaning is MBAM(quick scan) followed by ATF cleaner and SAS fgrom safe mode

for a thorough every month or so Kasp online is tops in my experience

                  Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.26

There used to be a saying you can't hurt hardware with software.
But that was before flash updates and that kind of stuff. The usual
bad result when doing low level programming when you didn't have a
breakout switch or a built in alarm using NMI was that you locked up
the machine and had to cycle the power.

It used to be a source of amusement that in older versions of OS/2 on
ISA Bus machines you could lock it up with just 2 instructions:

                    cli
                    jmp $

cli to clear the interrupt flag
and jmp $ which meant "jump to here" which is the same jump
instruction. So it would "jump here" forever!! On microchannel
machines though, they had an alarm using the Non Maskable Interrupt
to break out of it after a certain number of milliseconds.

Eventually they "virtualized" the interrupt flag so that you couldn't hose
the machine that way anymore. A lot of old Dos programs would clear
interrupts so that a critical section of code wasn't broken out of in the
middle.. so at first they let that instruction go through to the actual
hardware. Guess it was easier that way until people realized you could
use debug.com to create a 2 instruction program to lock up the PC.

btw some attacks mess with the network packets to blame the source
of the infection on an innocent 3rd party... so I hope your friend knows
what he'd doing or he might be doing some jail time.

Just a mention to the relevance of the subject in matter. Not intended to encourage or even take out of context, especially when alluding to anyone who was just used as a case in point of the fact that it can and does happen. In this case it's actually a counter preventive measure against having his system hosed or fried or hijacked and letting the source of infection know that for lack of a better word messed w/the wrong person and his personal records.

Miles I'm glad you mentioned that it has been done and can be and that it's not impossible. That was the point in question.

I gotcha'. I just mentioned the false flagging thing because it's often the guy who punches back who gets punished. Some guy belts you over a table in a tavern, the bouncer comes to check out the cause of the noise, and he's just in time to see you punching back!!! You're thrown out.. the instigator prolly gets a beer on the house. Life sucks.

I recommend AnVir Task Manager It shows everything running on a computer. I've been using it for about 4 or 5 years on a couple of pc's, and never get any problems with viruses or slow PC.
