    Microphone Not Working

    I bought a desktop mic today but it doesn't have a USB plug. I can't get it working. I tried the mic socket at the front and back of my PC and the Sound Recorder picks up nothing. I don't believe the mic is faulty because I've had the same problem with other non-USB mics and the same with my other PC. I mentioned "non-USB mics" because those only seem to work and the ones with the orginary plug don't.

      Right click on the Volume icon in taskbar. Then "Open Volume controls"/OPTIONS/Properties/Recording. Ensure that "Microphone" is selected as the recording source.

          Many thanks for helping. I went through that setting earlier to check things and after seeing your image, yours shows more to mine. Mine doesn't show the Mic section even though I installed all the audio drivers. I sent an image of my Volume Control.

                  Go to control panel, sounds and audio devices, then voice. Then test hardware. This will bring up another screen for testing the microphone, just follow the directions. This is for XP. I have used both the headphone jack style and also the USB style and both work on my laptop with no problems.

                      Many thanks for that. I got the Mic Volume showing now and it was on zero. I can't test it yet because I left my mic elsewhere where I was going to test it there and not only did I forget to test it I forgot my mic. Lol.
