    ffdshow x64 nothin works
ffdshow x32 everything works in media player
ffdshow x32 / x64 nothing works in media center
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

                Hi folks,

@ Chewy ... I thought we (us here in Digital-Digest world) were of the mind ... not to install a "Codec Package" ... but only the Codecs that we need as we go along.

Q1: Is that still a Good Rule!?!?

Q2: Does Vista Codec Package give ytou a listing what includes? Also, has there been any reports of Crashing or anything!?!?

                @ atifsh ...

Q1: was the ffsdhow the only thing that you uninstalled from Vista Codec Pack!?!?

Q2: What version of ffdshow worked for you!?!?

                Thanks,

                G!

I've been fighting this for hours now. Does the version of ffdshow matter?
                  I've tried:
                  ffdshow_rev2447_20081208_clsid_x64.exe
But it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Also, have you had any success with .mkv files?

perhaps this should be posted few days ago... anyway here what u need to fix x64 vista for mkv's and more.....

first of all uninstall each and every coded u have installed on ur 64bit vista, restart.. then and only then....

                    1: install Vista Codec x64 Components .
2: uninstall the ffdshow version installed by it.
                    3: install ffdshow_rev2399_20081130_x64

now comes the tricky part... u have to make ur 64bit media player as default, vista x64 has x32bit media player set as default and its not easy to change it.

4: open an elevated command prompt as administrator and type the following command:

                    %windir%\system32\unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:64

                    5: open regedit and goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths\wmplayer.exe

6: now on the right side change keys to...

                    default as "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"
path as "%Program Files%\Windows Media Player [this doesnt work for me so i had to do this] c:\Program Files\Windows Media Player

now to finally add mkv support in media center...

Open notepad and paste the following in:

                    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

                    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mkv]
                    @="MatroskaVideo"
                    "PerceivedType"="video"
                    "Content Type"="video/x-matroska"

                    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ts]
                    @="MatroskaVideo"
                    "PerceivedType"="video"
                    "Content Type"="video/x-matroska"

Save the file as : matroska.reg to the desktop afterwards doubleclick it and say YES to add it to the registry.
You can now see and play TS and MKV files in Media Center

                            Hi atifsh,

Q1: What is the difference between "Vista Codec 5.10" and "Vista X64 Codecs"?

Q2: Or Vista owners need both of them!?!?

Q3: Also, is there a Changelog File or some kind of listing that tells you what is in Vista Codec 5.10?

                            Thanks,

                            G!

vista x64 codecs are for 64bit otherone is for 32bit

no u dont need both unless u dont want to mess things like iv posted earlier thus u install both 32bit and 64bit codecs and ur 32bit media player will works aswell media center 64. but there is a chance using both may start new problems...

i didnt install vista codec 5.10, but 64bit codec when instaled showed whats installed in program folder.
