@ atifsh I am sure those links will prove invaluable. I bookmarked your post just in case.

    Thank You

I did originally think it was a browser problem because Firefox was a no go and IE 7 always come up.
I kept giving up because I assumed they had the download button redirected to the current page. Even IE 7 with protect mode off wouldn't get all the way there but it got to the next screen. I just kept pasting the last url until something opened the download manager. Oh well, checksum and file size check out so I guess I'll burn it.

I found the file sizes and md5sums for the various versions here:

So far so good!! Got network going right away. Naturally some of the settings are shuffled around. I know there's no way I could put Vista Home Premium on this PC with only 1 GB ram but this feels a lot like XP. Slightly longer lag when coming up to the desktop is about all the difference I can feel.

That''l be a upcoming hobby I guess. Having some guinea pig mobo and case to test and upgrade if It's good. Matter of fact if it's necessary.

@ burrell Your welcome. The 22x sata in my sig has a update also, but when I read you wouldn't be able to convert back to older firmware I stayed w/the one before. No issues so that's good.

very fast compared to vista mind u, compared to xp its not that bad unless ur using gadjets that take a sec or more but dam fast shutdown.

compared to win7 64bit 32bit is faster in startup or shutdown... strange!
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

Useful for checking the download got all the way down. Esp. when you have to do browser dance to get through the process. Or maybe it just seems that way. Was awfully weird when IE wouldn't go to the last page. You figure they'd be most compliant with their own browser. Maybe it's just whenever you happen to hit the button. All I know is FF never got past the license key page and it still won't. Hunting for 64 bit too before everything goes away.

My old PC I figure I'll be replacing before the Aug 1 kill date. It will be interesting to see how it goes. So far the only thing that absolutely refused to go on other than Intel graphics drivers is Sandboxie. I guess he has enough to do without beta support.

So far my impression is that it uses swap better than XP at least on my Pentium 4. It's running about 1.3 GB of swap file and showing about 39% memory used when under low load. Looks like they toned down the indexing too. I didn't kill off the search services but I only see mild HD run-on and only occasionally. Seems very smooth.

one cool thing they added is error recorder, instead of writing what u do and what error cameup, just start recording ur moves and send it, so they can see what exactly u did and what error cameup..

hmmm looks like my Paragon Drive Backup sees it as Vista. I'm doing an image backup now. That's a relief. What I like best so far though is how they got rid of the Quick Launch. I've got my taskbar double height with small icons. Plenty of room to pin apps without messing with that resizer thing. Good job.

Best thing I've found so far! When you select folders in Explorer and do Control Enter they open in new windows just like XP!! Hooray!!! Right clicking with the mouse and hitting Open was driving me crazy!!

Maybe there is hope for the new Windows OS after all. I have downloaded both versions. I am in the process of setting up a new computer and paly with the OS.

I've backed up my Vista machine. If it takes the SP1 without breaking stuff I might try the "upgrade" install. If W7 runs that good on my old Pentium 4 it must be lean. So it's gotta' run better than Vista is running on my dual core PC. I did a lot of work to quiet it down but when I make a restore point it insists on running the HD on for 5 to 10 minutes afterward doing something or other. I'm convinced Vista was the beta and W7 is the OS.

I have heard similar things these last few weeks, last year Gates said something about getting back to basics with Windows 7, it's amazing how many people still defend Vista and even like it.

it looks like Microsoft is ready to relegate Vista to the binary scrapheap.
Vista is looking more and more like the Edsel of the computer industry

I wouldn't mind if they'd send me a key for W7 ultimate if I sent 'em my key for Vista Premium Preloaded. Seems only fair to me. I keep hearing Vista is way better with the service pack. If I do the upgrade routine I guess I'll have a chance to find out.. if it goes on without breaking. I hope it takes because reinstalling all my apps is a pita. Still doing it on the P4 machine.

Chewy, I agree with that, it make a lot of sense. I have downloaded both versions. I am in the process of building another computer to test windows 7 on.
