WEI for harddisk on win7 is low because of some bug or driver issue. no matter what drive u have it will be lower, ppl thought its so ssd's can take place of faster drives but its not. turn off write cache and ur index will shoot my went frm 3 to 5.7
i benchmarked it using sissoft sandra and only difference i get was seek tim which was lower with write cache. throughput was same. but i couldnt do write becnhmark as it asked for empty drive.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

@dr_ml422 no the process killer thing was a freeware called
Aiglon Process Killer 1.0 but I hear now they are charging for it.
There are probably other ones out there if you look. Maybe on
      Softpedia.

@atifsh what's driving me nuts now is I had file and printer sharing all set up. Then I tried to kill off a few services. All the network stuff stopped working. I couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again so I just did Restore on both machines. I got network and file sharing, but no matter which machine I set my printer on, I can only connect remotely if the client is XP. What a pita!!! Jeez!! If the client is 7 no matter if I do homegroup no homegroup everything public whatever, I can see it from the client but if I do Connect I get an error unless the client is XP!! aaaarrrggghhhh!!!

I've been wasting 4 hours on this crap. I broke my "if it ain't broke" rule

@ Miles I got you on the process killer. I had saved the link. just was wondering about that autoit you posted.

@Miles, atifsh, and doc When you guys do these beta tests or w/e you use a whole different computer w/monitor and all correct? I wish I could join the party, but I just have my build which I'm not going to do a clean uninstall, and my prebuilt Dell which I can't do anything period, but use it as is. I'm getting hip to not trying to be too far behind, and having to catch up later. Not too much room here either for another computer either. How you guys go about this whole thing? Besides having space that is.

Also there is a link here to read and see what 7 is about correct? Or just the download links? If there isn't can 1 of you provide 1 that's safe to watch or here and also credible? Thnx.

try private, public is very secured and blocked. public here doesnt mean for everyone it means ur on public network and it secures everything too much.

              @ Dr...

              i do 3 ways...

use seperate pc easiest way... use single display have both dvi and dsub inputs so i use dvi for main system and dsub for test.

use seperate harddisk to install test os, thats what im doing now. win7 running fine for my daily work u i put main harddisk in draw for now.

if u have just one disk, then i used to image OS partition and save it and install test OS and when ever i want to revert i restore the partition.

That is why I am setting up another computer for testing purposes. That way if it does not work I do not have to worry about loosing any data.

Yeah I hear you guys. I'd rather be doing this. I already have the burning down packed for the most part if you know what I mean. I'll see how my finances are and then try to give it a go. A day at a time. I just don't want to wait too long as then I'll be rereading this thread again anyhows, which will prolly happen anyways.

@atifsh I got it finally. I shared it under a different name in XP, and set W7 client to private network. Once that worked I could get the W7 server to work. Sheesh!!

@dr_ml422 I only have 2 PCs and I wouldn't risk changing OS on both unless I had the Paragon image backup. After I let the Windows do a driver update my booting got hosed so I had to lay the image back on to undo it. Usually if one PC is down I can still access the internet on the other to bail myself out. Put it this way, if my AMD PC was gliding along under Vista I wouldn't have tried it. The weird thing is W7 seems to run better on the 1 GB P4 machine than it does on the AMD dual core. Boots faster and runs smoother, if a hell of a lot slower.

My new theory on the printer is it worked first time around because Vista properly served the driver over the network. Once I put W7 on the PC with the printer stuff got broken fast. Likewise now XP served the driver over the network. See if it lasts until tomorrow. Unfortunately with this printer you can't download a Vista class driver from Epson. They say it's in Vista so hot plug it and it will load it. Well I guess W7 doesn't work as well at hot pluggin' old Epson printers as Vista.

Thanks for the link. I tried laying my Vista back from the image then doing the SP1. No dice. It got all the way through 3 stages of installing SP1, then on the last boot it says "did not install ... rolling back changes"!! That's it for my experiments on this PC for awhile. It's back to where it was Jan 14.

I really liked the Taskbar with Aero. At least I got to see how it goes.

atifsh thnx for those pointers on how to go about it.

Oh well looks like I'll just have to wait until the time and resources are correct to try these new os trials 1 day.

@ Miles Boots faster and runs smoother, if a hell of a lot slower? I believe what you say just don't get it right now. I've noticed though that my dell sometimes responds faster than my build which is way better also. AMD dual core compared to P4 as well. Must be the smaller size hd or something. Kinda weird really.
