How To Run A System Cleaner

Hi folks,

My OS is Vista Home Prem. Sp1 64-bit. I have Avira + Comodo Firewall Pro + Comodo Memory Firewall + Comodo SafeSurf + SuperAntiSpyware + I believe Windows Defender as it comes with Vista.

I need to run a "System Cleaner" like Advanced SystemCare Free (ASC Free) ...

Q1: Do I have to turn off all of my Antivirus and Firewalls off before running ASC Free?

Q2: If not needed to Turn-Off all of them which ones needs to be turnedoff?

Q3: Or does it make any difference at all OFF or ON!?!? ASC Free or something like CCleaner will do their job anyway!

ASC is quite "destructive". Be carefuil with it. I use either CCleaner (free), Registry Mechanic, jv16PowerTools (a free version exists) or Glary Utilities (free). You don't need to turn anything off.

I was just warned by another person also. I am surprised that one of the Regulars at AnyD** suggested to me to fix my problem of ***.EXE a Helper for the 64-bit process.

Unfortuantely, I had just installed the ASC Free 3.1.1 but never told it to fix anything ... stopped short of that!

But I think it has/might have a "Spyware" function in it ... since when it asked me to make a "Back-Up of My Registry" ... an application called "COMPS.EXE" started hogging my resources and ASC Free never completed the Registry Back-Up ... so I stopped the process using the Task Manager.

I then googled "COMPS.EXE" ... well there is application called "COMP.EXE" but not COMPS.

And "PrevX AntiSpyware company" was the only one which identified COMPS.EXE as a No-No application.

I was surprised that Avira or McAfee or Norton and any other reputable software don't even have anything about this .exe file.

But, I am removing it and using CCleaner. This is going to be my first time ... really I just want to clean up all of AnyD*** trace from my laptop. The Program STINKS big time and it is a Total Waste of Money.

BTW, from the 3 Apps that you have mentioned which is the Easiest to use for a Newbie like myself.

I know what program that you are talking about Gonwk. I was given a copy to play with. What a piece of trash it was. It has been long gone for a long time.

Start with CCleaner. Run the cleaner then run the registry a few times.

Then look in the registry for Slysoft and see if its there and delete all keys. There will probably be a custom control left behind somewhere, but it's harmless.

Also look in your folders for Slysoft - usually in %appdata% - and delete those folders.
