Ouch! Now I understand your concerns.
This thing is just going to keep on morphing.

I hope you practice safe surfing.
Don't forget to use that Trojan.

So is there one type of protection better than another?

      IE: Norton VS Avast etc

From what I have read no one has the answers or a good way to remove the infections from your computer. BTW that is why I have a complete image of my hard drive. So no worries there.

Chewy you got that right, it is a drive that will never never see the light of the net at all. If the drive gets hit I have another computer that I use to format the drive that was hit.

I am staying away from myspace, facebook, youtube and ebay till the dust settles on this one.

Not that I go there anyway

I am on ebay, that is where I found a new laptop battery for the wife's computer. I am not a big youtube, facebook, and my space person anyways.

So if I am checking in on "My" Myspace account, I could be at risk as well?

I would suspect you would have to infect your own page

Don’t forget about any P2P, torrent, IRC channels and just to be safe kill any IM your are running.(Yahoo sucks)
Looks like Linux is going to be the best bet for general surfing until this one blows over.
With no Windows drives mounted mind you

Chewy when you say don't backup any executables or screensaver files, do you mean backing them up on a hdd in your pc? Or backing them up period? I just finish categorizing many .exes and am ready to put them into a usb zip flash drive. I better put them on a disc too just in case. In any event can you clear this up for me so I could take appropriate action. Thnx.

I would suggest burning any files that can be infected by virut to dvd-r or cd-r, at least the ones you would miss

Thnx. The ones I use I would miss even though their sites would have them as I have the license. I've been slacking on backing up my os n even my settings in FF. Another suggestion you guys gave way back. Kept getting involved in other computer stuff. This'll keep me busy and learn new methods at same time.

Really got tired of having to go to every site n forum to bookmark again after a clean install.

Looks like Virut.cf is still alive and well in Minneapolis. MN
12-person technology team was “working around the clock to rebuild 40 servers and to get all 3,500 district computers reimaged and back up and running.”

Houston's police department computers were hit also. The police department had to discontinue arresting traffic scofflaws.
