What does the 4X stand for?

    I’m using Memorex DVD+RW
    4.7 GB
    120 Minute Video
    4X

What does the 4X stand for?

I notice there are 2X, 8X, 16X, etc. How do I know when and which one to use?

    Thanks, John

The #X stands for the maximum allowable write speed of that disk. DVD-RW disks are always slower than DVD +/- R disks but DVD-RW can be written to more than once. DVD-RW disks have pretty much a set write speed where as DVD -/+ R disks can be burned at a range of speeds, but that fastest is not always the best to burn at for quality purposes. The same goes for CD-R’s Just because it says 52X on the disk you are normally better off burning at a lower speed like 16X.
