I thought that Major Geeks were scanning the files for viruses and trojan's and what not. I had not been on Major Geeks in a while. But the files that I have downloaded in the past were not infected. May be they are getting lazy about scanning the files for anything bad?

My audio went. Everything's correct in device manager. It says everything working properly. I ran diagnostics test and it came up saying no audio submenu? No time to google was waiting out the diagnostics. I'm going to plug in other speakers to see if these blew or something. Any insight on this finding let me know.

Oh, also audio cd didn't play in diagnostic test either. I'm safe as can be. only lately testing out new tweaks n such n that from Major geeks. I installed 3 or 4 apps. from there when I received these hits. I installed CClean portable from there also. I don't know.

Remove the audio device from the device manager and reboot and see if it will reload the device driver. If not re-download the driver and reinstall the driver. Or could be a chipset driver problem.

Nothing's worked so far not even a repair or clean install. changed speakers n still nothing. will look up for possible download of other driver, but all installed afaik. think something blew out my onboard sound or something. thnk God I'm not blind. last resort which is not bad is call Dell 4 new mobo or w/e. still under warranty. that driverdownload site is dangerous also. too much advertising. using ie for now. old 1 at that.

Well at least you have warranty, but I do not think Dell will send you a motherboard. I bet that they will want you to send the tower in for repair. When you looked at the device manager was there any yellow exclamation points on any of the devices. It not then it will be your motherboard. I have always used driverguide.com and have not had a problem with any of the downloads from there.

Have you tried the latest from the Dell site?

Also something isn't setting right after I read this:

I could see if I can help find something. What is the Model of your Dell PC?

He also did a clean install from I am guessing the Dell Recovery disks. The clean install should have taken care of the audio problem. I have never seen the on board audio go belly up like this. It does happen but IMHO it is very rare. I have spare audio cards if needed. All dr ml422 is go to Dell's web site and enter the service tag and all the info will be displayed for the computer.

I just remember a similar issue with a Gateway PC a few years ago. I found a newer driver on the Gateway site and believe it or not my audio came back. I understand his frustration.

It just seems funny the timing to be a hardware issue. But like you said, it happens even though rare.

EDIT: BTW I thought he would still be on. I'll be back Sunday evening. Going out of town.

Glad you got the sound working again. The soundmax software for my GX-280 is kind of buggy also but I found some bare bones drives that work much better.
Be careful with nlite. I have hosed a few XP installs by removing TO MUCH. LOL

I hear you. I follow nlite's suggestions as far as what to remove n what not to. Mostly I scrapped stuff I'll never use, like moviemaker, languages I won't ever use, stupid outdated brother n logitech drivers, MSN, messenger, and I integrate all service packs n drivers. no issues as yet. Gotta leave outlook express n WMP on there.

I'm going to be more careful w/some of the more common freeware sites from now on. It's true. They might be getting lazy.
