    Broken CPU fan!

    Hi,

I've just about had it with my computer's fan... a couple days ago it started making weird loud noises... I took the thing apart, tried to make it quieter, but it's still making noises. Almost like it's not lined up properly anymore or something.

My case is a Dell Dimension 2350. Anyone know where I can get a replacement fan?

Is this the one one your processor or the case one?

If the one for the processor, Which processor are you running?

Technical Specs do not narrow down which CPU

Get a new fan as soon as possible if it is the CPU fan. If it a case fan, then it can wait for a while.

I have bought a lot of fans and accessories from coolerguys, they usually have some of the best prices available. They have always shipped my orders really fast and with no problems. It looks as though they no longer carry any antec fans, but have several others. I liked the tricool antecs because they are DBB (double ball bearing), cheap in price, about the most quite for the RPM or CFM, and three speed adjustable.

most dell systems uses custom fan that doesnt fit on a cpu heatsink, instead front of the heatsink getting air inside.
these fans are real big and quite and works well. even cool overall system due to the size.

optiplex 280 was the bad one i had same design but small buggy heatsink thus the whole system was a blower. after that, optiplex 745 and xps systems were realy really good, big heat sinks thus those big fans doesnt need to spin fast.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

The fan is on the back of the case, and has a green "wind tunnel" thing covering the CPU. It's just one fan - the only one in my case is part of the PSU, and according to SpeedFan it doesn't even run. (But that's maybe because it's not plugged into the motherboard)

              --EDIT--

              This looks like it here:

$29 for a fan? Is that a good price? I figured they'd be like $5, but then again I knew Dell was custom which is why I didn't just head down to the local store and ask about them.

And I take it the 2400 is the same parts as the 2350?

It should be a standard fan, I have replaced those before

Carefully pry the shroud apart with a thin standard flat hand screwdriver

It seems that way. I even found a another refurbished one for $89.99.

                  Wow.

I think THIS is the part you are looking for. The one you linked to looked like it could work, but I did not see 2350 anywhere. It even has free shipping.

                  Good Luck

Oh, well that $29 is like the same price... the Discount Electronics site at least uses UPS which means it'll get here quickly (The stupid noises are driving me crazy!!)... and I also need a new floppy drive (because those rare occasions when it does come in useful, my floppy drive is broken due to age)

@Chewy, I'd rather not try to disassemble it if I don't have to... I'll just order a new one, at least I know how to replace parts

                    --EDIT--

Hmm, I did some Googling, apparently the D1592 does only work with the 2400. I guess I'll use that eBay page, thanks for the find!

That is how Dell makes there money. Sell the computers cheap and when the custom parts fail, you have to order the part from Dell and pay the price. From what I can remember I think it is a 120mm fan. Don't think it was nothing special. Drfs the part that you ordered is it just the fan or is it the complete assembly with the green ducting.

You are right about it being a 120mm fan. Size wise a regular 120mm fan will fit in the cage it's mounted in. The big problem is it's a 4 wire fan and the damn system bios controls the speed. If you wire in a regular 3 or 2 wire fan the bios will sense something is wrong. I have an Optiplex GX-280 mid-tower with the same problem but I'm rather let this puppy fry than pay Dell the kind of money they want for their propriatary crap.
Heck I only paid $80 for the system including a CD/DVD combo drive, 2.8 Ghz HT P4, 1 gig of ram + a 40 Gb sata.
