    XBox 360 Data Transfering

I did ask about this before but I forgot what was said and I can't find the XBox 360 section.

I recently got a replaced XBox 360 and the replacement has an 80GB hard drive and my other hard drive (that I luckily kept encase of a write-off happening so I still have my data) is a 20GB hard drive. I want to transfer the lost from the 20GB to my 80GB. I read about a data transferer made by Microsoft that you plug in the back of the XBox 360 and the other end in a hard drive but the way the method is done, it sounds risky because some things have been known to be lost. I have a lot of my gameplays from the XBox 360 backed-up in a memory card but not my XBox gameplays because you can't copy those to a memory card. Anyway, my main worry is how I transfer my achievements, game score points in my dashboard and other points that I bought to download this 'n that such as the points that I bought for GTA 4 Lost & Damned. I can buy those points again to get the game back but as I said, I'm more worried about my achievements and my game score points in my dashboard.

Is there a quick and easy way to transfer all the data? Backing-up and transfering data in a PC is easy but it seems so different with a game console.

    Many thanks.

Microsoft has a data transfer kit available, but it only comes with Xbox 360 Elite's and the 120 GB HDD pack (it is referenced on this page: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...arddrive120GB/) and is not available to purchase separately (it can be requested from Microsoft, but they only give it out to Elite owners).

People on eBay sell their kit once they've used it themselves, so you can have a look there.

It's actually not a copy, but a move, so afterwards, your 20 GB HDD will be empty. It should move everything, including downloads and achievements (I think achievements aren't stored locally anyway), but certain save games can't be moved for selected titles (I think Viva Piñata is one of them). I think even if you don't move the downloads, Live has a record of your points and purchases, so I don't think it will be lost, but at worst, you'll have to re-download (for free) the add-ons you've already purchased.

Many thanks for the info. Sorry I posted in the wrong place, I did try to find the XBox 360 section but I couldn't find it.

I'm worried and confused. First, I don't know if I'm an Elite user. Are Elite users the ones with a 120GB hard drive only? The biggest hard drive I have is an 80GB hard drive.

What do you mean when you say when data is transfered from one hard drive to another, everything in the first hard drive such as the 20GB hard drive will lose the data as in erase itself? I thought when data is transfered to another hard drive, all the data will remain safe in the first hard drive as in the 20GB hard drive where I'm only transfering and not erasing. I understand whatever is in the 80GB hard drive will be erased. Why does the old 20GB hard drive get erased during transfering to an 80GB hard drive?

I don't know if my achievements and game score points are held on XBox Live because I got most of the achievements and game score points before I got XBox Live. I don't know if XBox Live recorded my achievements and game score points at a later date when I got XBox Live. Most of my XBox 360 use was as one-player games without the XBox Live. This is also why I'm worried and confused.

      Many thanks.

The Elite is the black one with the 120 GB HDD.

The reason the source drive gets erased is due to anti-piracy features I suppose - the process is a move, rather than a copy.

As for achievements and gamerpoints, it's a bit trickier. Do you have a separate online and offline gamertag, or do you only have one gamertag that used to be offline, but is now online?

If you have separate gamertags, then I think the best thing to do is to email Microsoft and tell them exactly what your current situation is and what you plan to do, and they will hopefully provide some instructions. Without any evidence to back me up, I would still say that if you do a transfer, all the offline stuff will be copied over, and the online stuff you can recover later on.

If you only have one gamertag, then I think what happens is that the stuff you got when you were offline were copied online the first time you went online with that gamertag. If you go to xbox.com and login, then all your gamerpoints and achievements should be online. This kind of account would be easy to copy over, since everything is online and you shouldn't lose anything.

Either way, I would recommend you contact MS support and see what they say. Who knows, they might even send you a free transfer kit.
