New installed FF opens in 1/2:

I just installed and reinstalled FF and it initially opens in 1/2 straight down the middle. It never did this. IE is not doing it. Is this a new version issue? Has anyone experienced this lately? Thnx.

Every time I installed a new version of FF using the installer, rather than update, it opens to that page telling you it's a new version and it changes the window size. It's a pita. You just have to resize, make sure your start page is what you want(I use about:blank) and close it. When you open from then on it should remember size and position.

Whoever does that should be made to debug Maxthon extensions in solitary.

edit: I just read your other post. Nevermind.

So that's the fix huh. I've done a few clean installs and this never happened before. I'll try this out and see what's up. Tbh if IE wasn't so vulnerable and bugged out I'd use it as it loads faster. Nothing like Google though to find answers. I'll post back w/any results. Thnx.

Ok. No matter what I tried before didn't work. Now I tried another fix which is to maximize the window and then exit in file exit. That took care of the 1/2 size window thing.

Btw I also installed the new 3.5 Beta and I must say this baby's buzzing. Way faster than the previous stable release. I'll play w/this. I'll get to chrome sooner or later.

I still had to resize the window to my original size when restoring down though as it would do 1/2 window also. What I did was open IE and restore down their window then open FF and drag the sides to match IE's size. Hopefully this'll stay like this after restart. W/e works. This was driving me nuts.

Try Minefield. I've been using it for quite a while. The JIT Content thingy makes it rock. Only thing is I suggest instead of using the autoupdate all the time, now and then download the nightly build installer. Now and then you get a funky build and need to back it off. But I think that only happened to me once. Just google "minefield nightly build" and you should get the download. It installs into a separate folder so you can go back by just uninstalling.

When I got the bad build I went back to FF 3.0.10 but that little lag loading pages made me go back to minefield. It's too fast not to use it. You don't need to install FasterFox. Just use it the way it installs.. plus you can use your AddOns if you install Mr Tech utilities to bypass the version check.

If I understand correctly, what you need to do is set it to open "maximized". Easiest way that I know to do it - put a shortcut to ff on the desktop if it isn't already there.

Rclick>properties>shortcut tab. In the "Run" box, set the drop down arrow to "Maximized". Click apply/ok & this will fix the problem.

Ok. Well I now Know how to maximize if it strts acting up. any suggestion on how it won't go down to 1/2 the page when restoring down? I fixed it like i posted, but if there's a permanent fix should this go south I'd appreciate it.

@ Miles This Minefield i also have to try. You suggested it a while back. The Nightly build installer what is that exactly? is it a update to minefield that comes around once in a while? Or some feauture to let you dl updates at your leisure? Only so much Googling I could do. At least fast and constantly.

I'm just about to build my new build and that's going to be fun... If you know what I mean. Going to throw 7 64 Bit in it and see what if any glory it has. So I'll be busy and at wits end for a bit. you guys are too advanced and quick. when i try to catch up i end up going nuts. it's all good. If we all had all the goods we'd be trillionaires.

They have the installers in a public tree you can download. There's a new build every night. Nightly build of the program. That's why I say download the installers now and then because sometimes if you do Help=>Check for updates, and update minefield, if it has a bug, it's hard to find older builds to go back to unless you saved them yourself. The only one sitting up there for download is the latest afaik.

It's not that big a deal. Like I say, I only got one really bad version. The short answer is, google "minefield nightly builds" and you'll find the downloads.

Is minefield part of the mozilla family?

It's Firefox. Just a codename for the beta like "longhorn" was for windows. I guess that makes "buzz" if you have a codename.

It kicks ass though. Once the web site starts sending you the data the window snaps up there! Must be the JIT for context thing. That's the only real difference I know of between Minefield and other FF betas. It installs with JIT for content enabled by default.

I googled and went to the site. there was all sorts of weird named installs i guess. I didn't know if they were all minefield or different betas. How do you download and install those weird things anyway? I hope it was the correct site. Can you provide a link if possible?

After scourging the net w/Google it was evident that the 1/2 window thing is a bug of sorts w/FF and I do not have a virus or malware. I even ran Kapersky online and a couple of other AV's just to be sure. Hate reinstalling that darn browser. I just resized and exited w/file and it's ok now.

I must admit FF is slow to open. I never noticed it b4. Sometimes it opens quicker than other times though.

FWIW, what version of IE is for lack of a better word the most stable/efficient. I have IE 6 that came w/Home. I rarely use it but when the whole FF thing started acting up I went to it. Couldn't do any tabbed browsing w/it though. That I know of anyways.
