Vista SP2: users Report Big Jumps in Free Disk Space

True. Those restore points take up a lot of space after some months. It sounds as it's that space that is now free.

Is that in all versions? I'm wondering because the lower releases like Home Premium don't give you access to file versioning, but with a utility like Shadow Explorer you can still "undelete" old versions of stuff that's saved when restore points are made(shadow copies.)
I'm wondering if maybe they're disabling saving that stuff.

Should be in all Vista version.

By default, Windows Vista allocates 15% of the drive's size OR 30% of available free space, whichever is smaller.

I think persons had the same "regained space issue" when they installed SP1.

Ok so it's probably just purging restore points so that nothing gets rolled back to before the SP2 install. That makes sense now that I think of it.

            Hi folks,

Q1: So are you guys & gals ... suggesting to go for Vista-SP2?
FYI, I think I saw some posts people complaining about some crashes and porgrams' conflict with Vista SP2.

Q2: How come I have not seen a Push Down by Microsoft UPDATES Manager yet for SP2?

            Thanks,

            G!

gonwk, Do you use 32 or 64 Vista? Because I am curious as to why you have not received it yet, I recieved SP2 through automatic updates on Tuesday May 26th, on two of my Vista machines but they are both operating on 64bit. I would have thought both versions would have been auto updated at the same time though.

                Hi Copyless,

My Gateway laptop came with Vista Home Premium, SP1, 64-Bit.

Are you running Home Prem or other versions!?!?

                Thanks,

                G!

The exact same version you have, except now it is SP2. Do you normally let the critical updates install? I ask this because on one of my computers SP2 did not show up until after some other updates had been installed ( the machine I am speaking of had not been updated in a couple of months). So maybe this is why it hasn't showed in you update file.

SP2 is not out for the Swedish language yet - so not installed here.

                    @copyless

There is a fix file/update that needs to be installed before SP2 shows up - at least from what I've read in other forums.

                      Hi folks,

@ Copyless ... yes I have my updater set to let me know then I decide which ones to install ... which always are all of them ... I just like to look at them 1st. Plus long time ago I had a major problem on updating ... which a Microsoft update would go thru steps 1 and 2 and would CRASH on Step 3 Finalization ... so I decided I will do updates manually and then I can pinpoint my Problem update.

@ Cynthia ... Yepe ... Nice to See YOU around!

                      G!

that was for the beta release to show up in windows update.

it is available i think, u need to install few patches first. cant be sure because iv installed vista sp2 as integrated fresh install on the laptop.
