So guys...
I'm ready to buy a laptop for college. I have around $1500 total to spend, including operating systems, etc.
I was initially going to get the 15" Dell XPS laptop, customize it a bit, and then use the Dell OEM XP Pro CD I bought on eBay. The problem is that the XPS is so popular all the colors are now sold out except pink.
I don't want to wait all summer for black to come back, especially since it might not.
So I found some other options. I need you all to give me suggestions, since these are pre-built, if they're good or not, or what you'd suggest.
Here is one a friend of mine found on NewEgg, and currently it looks like the best one to go with:
The thing is, just about all laptops now come with Windows Vistrash installed. That's obviously a bad choice, I want to put XP Pro on. Assuming I add the $159 cost of an OEM XP Pro CD... I need to be sure that I can find drivers that will work on XP. I have no idea about that MSI one.
So I found this one at Micro Center. The price is incredibly cheap compared to the other, and it comes with an XP downgrade CD (meaning I wouldn't need to buy a separate OS disc). The only downside is it only has 2GB of RAM... while that's more than what I have on my desktop, I'd probably spend another $100 or so to buy some more RAM sticks, and use the 4GB max you can put in it. I would also probably put in a 500GB hard drive.
Does anybody else have any ideas I could look at? I don't really want to spend *more* than $1500 (though I could go a hundred or two over if I really have to)... and any left over I can use to buy software etc.
--EDIT--
Oh. I want one with a 15" screen (most of these are 15.4). That's why I'm not going with the 13" XPS... and it's no coincidence both of the ones I linked have a 15.4" screen.
--EDIT 2--
Oh yeah. I kinda want a Blu-Ray drive... since my desktop is IDE-only and I really can't find one for this. Since I'll be getting enough RAM to actually PLAY the HD stuff, I figure I mayaswell have one. I know the Sony doesn't have one built in (shocker, considering the company)... would it be feasable to buy one and manually install it?
