Problem Upgrading IE

I'm trying to upgrade my Dad's IE to IE8. He uses Windows Vista and every time I try to install IE8, it gets to an early stage and a message appears where the PC has detected a previous version. Normally when we get these messages we have to remove the previous version of whatever. How can I do that with the IE? Also, if I could, I wouldn't be able to access the internet to find the IE8 for the upgrade.

This error message is the dumbiest error I've ever read.

means u got a pre release version already installed. goto add remove and click show installed updates. then ull see IE installed. remove that.
