    Icons on the Desktop Q

    Hi folks,

Today I heard something from a Novice person that he had read somewhere that if you Remove your Desktop Icons to your toolbar ... meaning remove the Icon shorcuts from your desktop ... that somehow makes your computer work better and respond faster ... I suppose not bug down your CPU or RAM!!!

I googled this topic and no hits ... and henceforth posting here to get the "Correct" answer.

Q: Is there any Truth to this?

    Thanks,

    G!

The desktop is a listview, with all the icons, the text associated with them, and their positions. There has to be some overhead if you have lots of icons, but on any CPU faster than a 386 I doubt you could measure it.

Eliminating icons is a good idea to get rid of the annoyances associated with icons on the desktop. Speed really isn't a factor unless the hamsters are tired.

      Thanks for the answer!

      G!

If anything in old old Windows, like 3.1 or Win95 if you had tons of icons you might make the desktop unstable. Probably where the idea came from. Not so much it's slow as it crashes. Once they got to Win98 2nd ed. that pretty much went away.
