    This Is So Odd

I bought a copy of Rollercoaster Tycoon two years ago where it had been converted to XP. When I first installed it, everything was fine. I just installed it and everytime I run it to play it my Avast Anti-Virus keeps triggering off a virus alert saying there's Malware inside. How on earth can a pre-recorded copy of a game have a virus? Why wasn't this so-called virus detected before when I was already using Avast Anti-Virus when I bought the game. When I just scanned the CD-ROM for viruses, nothing was deteted. I can't get my head around this. This is as odd as owning a frost-damaged freezer.

I remember ages ago when my Dad kept getting a virus alert from his Avast Anti-Virus every time he tried printing out an e-mail from Yahoo and the e-mail had no attachment or photos in the e-mail, it was only an e-mail with writing. Every time he hit Print the virus alert kept coming up. What is wrong with Avast Anti-Virus?

    Many thanks.

I have had the same issue with a dvd cover creator progam i use and Avast.

The program may have contained malware which when you installed originally two years ago was not recognised by your virus software and as such it ignored it. (You also said a copy, is this on an original disk as people do tend to tweak the .exe program to avoid license activations etc which Avast my pick up as malware and rightly so)

AV software these days will detect "cracks" and "keygens" as malware. Some of them are, but some are not.

If it's an original game disc, then the warning is probably a false one. If it tells you which file is the problem, perhaps you can upload and test it on VirusTotal (if the file isn't too big) to see if other AV software detect it as such.

The definition of Insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results. Maybe you're used to Avast. Whether it's a false positive or not, it's frustrating to get these alerts.

My patience some times goes as far as someone else's incompetence. My $.02. Check out the Game. Make sure it's not a virus. Then decide if Avast is worth the headache. Tons of free AV proggies, and w/safe hexing etc... really no need imo to be too heavily fortified.

I don't give any software too much play time in my head anymore. Better to uninstall and get similar/better working one if available.
        SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

Take the suggestions and follow the directions. The results will speak for themselves.
