    Windows 7 Print Share Issue

Hi just setting up the home network and have a fresh install of Windows 7 on my computer. I use an old computer XP Pro as a central computer to do all printing in the house. I have managed to connect to my xp machine and install an Epsom printer no problem (I use this one for photos)

I also have a HP officejet 2115 printer for everyday tasks. I connect to the printer the same way as the Epsom so i'm sure this is not the issue. Now the wierd thing is when i print to the HP it shows up in the print queue and the printer starts going though the motions so to speak but then just stops (prior to the printer taking the paper)? Im sure the printer is working as prints fine from the XP machine and also remotely via a third laptop running the dreaded Vista.

Do you think this is a Windows 7 driver issu any or ideas greatly received.

What model Epson do you have? I have Stylus C88+. If I connected it to an XP machine, it has a client program that runs on the remote PC. If I connect it to a Vista PC, the Vista Driver will be served over the network. But if I try to connect it to a W7 PC, it will print locally but the driver won't be served over the network. The best solution seems to be, if possible, to connect it to a Vista PC.

You should check on the Epson site. Some models have drivers you can download, but mine the Vista driver is in the firmware and hot loads when you connect it. So there's no way I can connect it directly to the W7 PC and have it served over the network. The Windows will go out on the network and do a driver search, and make this funky icon that looks nothing like the printer, and it will never work correctly.

Depending on your printer model I'd look on the Epson site and see if there's a client program or other XP software for it.

The Epsom printer works fine over the network its the HP printer that has the issues. Unfortunately i cannot connect to the HP printer directly as i have 3No computers that print to it.

You say the driver is in the firmaware with your printer could you not install the printer by connecting to the W7 PC and then reconnect it to the Vista machine. Then go into the Epsom printer properties and change the port address to point to the Vista machine as you would do it you set it up as a network printer? That way would you not be using the print drinvers that came with the printers firmware?

          additional info, just incase.
please check your HP driver. because windows 7 has a different set of driver. or you can isolate the problem by printing it via usb cable first and then if it prints then the problem is solely the network. and the modem driver incompatibilty issues must be check.

I just gave that as an example of a printer that doesn't have downloadable drivers. I naturally don't know every model and make of printer and their quirks. But with USB dominating it's natural to think a hot loading driver is a possibility.

I recommend this forum for all things HP computer-related:

The support is provided by users, not HP.
