Good to hear and that it doesn't have that ID Google uses for tracking. Have you noticed if it id though? I'll be looking into this asaic. The link is the above you posted correct?

Im pretty fine w/IE 8 and running it Sandboxed. So I'll weigh things out see what real difference it would make for my use. Main thing is getting out of Google's grasp.

Since I posted I've moved to the V. 5 Alpha. It seems just as stable as any other browser and it screams!! It's really fast on my quad core but it's still very snappy on my dual core. Plus it loads off the HD!! There's no comparison to single process browsers. It just snaps open.

      http://www.srware.net/forum/viewtopi...&sid=db865Nero Serial Removed9aa

Plus most of the google or chromium extensions are likely to work with it. It's kind of like Opera in that obvious things work without having to install and extension... like if you go to allmusic.com or to a site with streaming video, it plays out of the box(at least the sites I've tried.)

I'm not going back. I'm hanging onto Firefox just because I haven't figured how I want to sync bookmarks and passwords yet. It's like using a fast computer. After a few hours you just don't want to go back to sloooooooowwww!!!

I tell you one thing great about this Iron browser.. I have it set as default browser. When I click the Sandboxie button to run the default browser Sandboxed, this thing comes up within 2 seconds!! I used to have to wait for FF to come up Sandboxed maybe 15 seconds with the HD idle!! A world of difference!!

It still has a few quirks but I'm hoping they come out with a v. 5 Beta soon. All in all it's pretty stable though.

I had to do some searching and to figure out what all this chromium/chrome was about. Ok, so chrome is just the branded version of the open source chromium project. This Iron Alpha is a clone correct? The author or admin is a pretty bright guy. SRWare.

I'll think about playing w/it. Did you create a restore point before hand just in case of any bad quirks etc...?

I have no idea why some don't think a restore point is a good way to protect yourself from new installs. I've read some posts on this. I jus shook my head as why would there be a restore function to begin with.

I never went back to FF so I wouldn't know about the very slow upstart times. I do know however that IE sandboxed comes up pretty fast.

Thnx for another great alternative site. Sandboxie is just what the doctor ordered!

I did make a restore point before putting Iron on. But I've been using it enough now that I'm pretty confident in it. I think I only had it go unresponsive once, where I had to close it. Less than Firefox. Plus it's a relief not to go through all that updating every couple of days once you have a few AddOns installed. I'm running with only 2 extensions. AutoCopy and Undo Closed Tab. That's it.

Here's the link to the alpha if you want to try it out:

It's funny you mention restore points because I noticed someone mentioned that Commodo Time Machine was free. So I took a look at it. Looks like a wrapper for Restore Points with maybe a few features. It uses Shadow Copy Service to do its stuff. Might be ok as long as you have image backups in case of a real disaster. For now I just do the restore points manually. I have a little VB Script shortcut where you can just double-click it and type in a comment for the restore point. Makes it convenient.

I'm glad I opened this thread up myself. I thought I was the only one tired of all the constant updates/upgrades to FF etc... It does/did get annoying didn't it. I mean it would even not work sometimes.

I'll post back if I get my hands on this IRON and start running it. I just hate it when things start going haywire, and right now I'm doing fine w/IE. Never thought I would say/use it again really.

I may have mentioned this before but if you are starting to like IE you may want to take a look at MaxThon. I haven't used it in several years, but it's a tabbed browser that uses the IE engine. There are lots of user written addons or plugins for it. I haven't used it in quite awhile so I don't know if it's plagued by the same update mania as FF. I know it used to be a fun place to hang out. I just got away from anything IE based after I got hosed by a BHO.

I hear you on the getting away from IE. Though now w/7 and IE 8 coupled w/Sandboxie I'd really have to be hitting a crazy spot. I need to start clicking on that IE 8 window that opens up and asks if you want to know the new stuff. Lol... I still just hit later. Prolly dozens of simpler functions I can do w/it as well as 7 itself.

Oh I'm getting good at Sandboxie and individual apps. btw. I'll post in other thread about it.

Thnx. I posted a lil update on the free antivirus n firewall thread on Sandboxie just now. A lil heads up on using it w/individual apps. in separate sandboxes.

Takes time to figure out all configurations for mostly all apps. and its features. So I have to take a breather and slowly go at them. Next in line is IE 8 as I mentioned I'm still putting off by closing the Ask Me Later Window. Heck I haven't even touched most of the better features of 7 x64 yet. When I will I'll prolly be checking out your utilities too.

Apple adds Microsoft's Bing as a usable search engine on the applicable iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch devices:

Two of Apple's innovations announced by the company's CEO in this morning's keynote address to the opening of the 2010 World Wide Developer Conference shows Google is under attack.

Well apart from HTML5 I hope it spruces up it's search hits. I now have 100% came out of the habit of going straight to Google, and with very good results. I've been using AltaVista, Yahoo,Ask and About.com. So in my experience I have to say that habit does play a big role in automatically Googling.

Right. They got the name of their search engine to be the verb. Like whoever makes Kleenex tissues got their brand name as the name of the item. People say "give me a kleenex" instead of "give me a tissue." Or at least they did when I was a kid. Now they probably say "pop up a wet one" or something.
