    How Does This Work Out?

My old PC was having problems as some know by other thread of mine. The formatting software got corrupted. I asked a software support line how to fix this and somebody asked me if I have an old Recovery disc from an old PC and I do. I used that disc to format the hard drive even though things would be different in the PC such as me losing some pre-installed software that came with it and it now says it's a Q-Tech PC instead of a Zoostorm PC as I knew would happen. Things went through and all the software that I installed before the format seems to be gone. Less showing under All Programs as well and less under Program Files. What I don't understand is when I right-clicked on C-Drive and clicked on Properties, and the disc space meter reads more of the hard drive used compared to before I did the format. It seems as if that Recovery CD installed Windows XP and other bits and pieces on top of the other copy of Windows XP that was already in the PC when I bought it. Also, all my software that I installed and my other data appears to still be in the hard drive even though it seems hidden behind the copy of Windows XP from that Recovery disc. After a format the disc space meter should read about 10% of the hard drive used, not 70% used.

I tried some software that erases the whole hard drive and it seemed to have worked because everything in the list when I click on Start was deleted. The disc space meter still reads the same. I right-clicked on C-Drive again there was an option about deleting the whole of the hard drive including Windows. I thought I'd try that because it sounded promising. When that finished, Windows has some words missing in messages and nothing written in some icons etc and I knew things went the way I wanted and that Recovery disc from another PC would fix it by re-installing Windows XP. I did all that and things looked fine with Windows XP working fine again. When I right-clicked on C-Drive again it still says 70% of the hard drive used.

What is going on and how do I fix this?

    Many thanks.
