XP System restore HDD now almost full

Just did a system recovery XP Media Center 2005 from the partitioned section of my HDD. When the process started the HP software sid it was backing up user data. It is now finished and I have all the widows updates but when I look at my system drive which is 300GB's I now have 8 GB of free space. Prior to the system restore I only had about 120 GB's on the drive. I think the backup data is still there filling my HDD since my sytem drive is almost full and it was about 50% empty before the process. I went to disk clean up futitlity for my system brive and deleted files but my drive is still almost full.

Usually when I have done this on a not destructive restore, (Having it back up) it puts everything in a folder in C drive in either backup, or windows old.

Many times you can't copy these files unless you take ownership in permissions. It will include many program files, windows settings and files, etc. And of course your files you want.

    Does that help any?

    Good Luck

You might try one of those disk utilization graphical apps to show you were all the stuff is hiding. Something like WinDirStat. Also on another board someone suggested the easy way to get rid of Windows.old was just to use Unlocker on the folder.

You could also try CCleaner and see if it says something about where the storage is used. I know it can see restore points. I don't know if it can see other shadow copies though.
