saving emails

Hi, I want to close my hotmail account, but before I do, I would like to save all my emails (in & sent) to my hard drive. Can anyone please tell me how I can do this.

I would just install a desktop mail client like Thunderbird and then use POP3 to download the emails to your computer. You can use IMAP too, but if you do something wrong, you could end up deleting your Hotmail stored mails, or your local version, so that's why I prefer the one-way POP3 method.
