Some time ago I was using Tox. It has a different focus than skype cause u are using it mostly for security reasons.
Once you are locked in and have your contacts the functionality is similar and I made the experience that it runs pretty solid.
I'd still use it if skype wasn't so powerful and I couldn't get my friends into changing.
