To be fair to Sony, the dead goat was not killed for the event. It was bought from a local butcher shop (already dead, and then returned afterwards) and the stuff about eating from it is not true (meat soup was served, as a suggestion that it came from the goat). It was just there for show. You gotta love British tabloid sensationalism (the Daily Mail has been getting on my nerves a bit recently, due coverage of some unrelated events).

Exactly.
Those that are offended would not have been buying hte game anyways, so they lost nothing there.
Those people will be making a big stink about the event and thus drawing attention of other people who may have not been reached before for one reason or another, thus bringing on new customers.

Sony has little to loose now a days anyhow and taking bold moves such as this may be just what they need to get some tyoe of hold on the new gen, race.
One thing is for sure, Sony is dead last in the current gen console race and they need soemthing to pull them back in it.... strong marketing strategies such as this may or may not work, only time will tell.
