Movie piracy => less people watching movies in cinemas => less popcorn sales => hurts corn farmers. NBC/Universal's general counsel Rick Cotton must be a genius, his mind works in a completely different way to everyone elses'.

What's next? Piracy => less business => fewer teenagers hired by cinemas => more unemployed bored teenagers => teenage drug use increases => teenage drug addicts need money, so they rob people (which is okay, because Rick says robbery isn't as important as piracy) => increased murder rates

I live around a lot of farmers here in Iowa and I have not heard them complain about piracy hurting them. I have heard them complain about corn prices dropping and the corn buyers buy it up cheap and make huge profits selling corn syrup, ethanol, and feed.But yet the cheap prices of corn does not get passed on at the gas pumps and AFAIK the corn syrup price hasn't dropped (I don't by feed so I have know idea what it's going for) As for the popcorn farmers I would say it's the $10 a bucket at the theaters that's hurting sales

I wish the movie execs would get their act together. I just read this mornings paper and a new post WWII record for planting corn has been set in the US. According to this link the corn farmers are doing OK.

Did the movie execs ever take into account the price of admission to see movies in a theater and also the ridiculous prices of soda and candy. Taking a family of four to a move can be a days take home pay or even more for some people.

I live amongst the corn fields and have all my life. Believe me the farmers around here aren't hurting from the lack of popcorn sales! They seem to have plenty of equipment as I get stuck behind them for miles on the highway during planting and harvest season.

I'd go with the price of movies, the price of popcorn and drinks, and the price of gas to get to said movies has more to do with the demise of the popcorn sales. If we go to movies that have been out for a few weeks they become "$5 Movies" at all our local theaters. It cost about $12 for a bucket of popcorn and 2 drinks, more then the movie cost!! Who wants to pay that much for popcorn?

I don't like popcorn anyway! (but hardly ever go to the cinema anymore) so Rick can go shove it up his jumper. Clearly, he is overpaid and underbrained. Dope.

Yeah DVD sales up and they ain't cheap and now BR and HD which costs more, movies still setting records at box office (I seen where the movie 300 went over $200 million) if Rick thinks the corn farmers are doing bad maybe he should send them so $$$$$ and give popcorn away for free in the theaters for those paying to get in.

Even when I do go to the movies, we usually bring our own popcorn because of the outrageous prices the theaters charge.

All they have to do is make DVD-Rs with natural corn products and those poor farmers can profit from piracy
