Digital Playground to Release First (Adult) Blu-ray Title

Previously HD DVD-exclusive adult distributor Digital Playground will go dual-format with the Blu-ray release of 'Pirates' in early January.

As we've previously reported, Digital Playground made headlines earlier this year when one-named auteur Joone (the company's founder) was quoted as saying that his company was forced to change HD allegiances after all Blu-ray Disc copying facilities in the United States refused to accept his business.

I guess adult movies and high definition would have been considered a contradiction in terms in the past.

Somewhere I heard Sony had 3? new blu-ray pressing plants built in the USA?

The biggest problem facing Blu-ray now is the production demand and not being able to meet it. Sony is investing a lot of money into new pressing plants since existing DVD plants cannot support Blu-ray manufacturing (unlike HD DVD, which if you look at it, is really just an upgrade on existing DVD technology). There might also be plants that are not operated by Sony DADC (but has financial/technical support from them) that will help press adult discs.

Blu-ray is the winner

I think with blu-ray winning the format war we will see all the porn from now put on blu-ray discs and anyone in the HD industry should be looking for new jobs quickly!

Vivid has begun releasing all adult DVD titles simultaneously on Blu-ray.
That means about 1 titel per week
